What Turnout #'s to use for Yard & Sidings on HO Layouts

Building Code 55 & 70 Turnouts
Hi, Guys. I'm building my 7th layout, after a move & have a Garage 13.5' x 23.5 ' that I have Insulated & wired 4 my train Room. I have a lot of Atlas Code 100 Track that I acquired over the years. In my new layout, which will be 2' wide benchwork Aproximately 48" H. and around the walls, I will be changing over 2 Code 70 for my main line, & Code 55 for my sidings & Yard. My yard will require Approx. 20 Turnouts. My ??

wood ties for handlaying
As i am about to embark on a new layout certain decisions need to be made. i will be hand laying all my visible track with code 83-70 and 55 rail. i was wondering what the difference is in the pre cut ties avalible form various manfacturers.

83 All the Way?
I am looking over my track plan with an eye to starting to purchase rail. Aside from asthetics, is there any real advantage to having Code 83 for the mainline and, say, Code 70 for the yards and sidings? Is there that much visual differnce once ballast, landscaping etc. is added? What about availability of various switches etc.? Cost? Transitioning? Your thoughts would be appreciated as always.
Shortening Walthers-Shinohara Double Slip Turnouts
The BQR has a stub yard & industrial complex at one end of the layout. This has posed a number of interesting challenges not the least of which is trying to effectively utilize the limited space senior management has made available for the layout. The design for the yard utilizes a number of Walthers-Shinohara #6 double slips -- currently sitting on the benchwork. The turnouts as provided by the vendor are a bit over 15" in length. But there is a fair amount of track past the guard rails of the double slip -- almost 3".

Uncoupling Cars
The benchwork on The Greater Nickel Plate is finished and we are awaiting next month's "allotment" for homosote and backdrop material - pictures to follow soon. In the meantime, I have been looking over the trackplan and have a question for those who have railroads up and running.
matching PCB ties to stained wood ties.
Need help matching PCB ties to stained wood ties. I'm experimenting with hand laying code 40 track in N scale. I'm modeling a turn of the last century logging rail road with untreated hand hewn ties. I'm making ties from an old verical blind that I belive is made from split bamboo or rataan. It looks like wood, cuts like wood, sands and stains like wood but is more flexible than wood.

Need some one who actually knows something about wiring....
I need a little help. I'm working on a control panel to help a friend align his turnouts and keep his trains on the route that he wants them on. The turnouts are Atlas code 83 snap switches and the switch machines are the Atlas above the table solenoids. I'd originally wired them to the Atlas controllers but a row of controllers was confusing to him and the switches caught a couple of times and burned up solenoids. I want to recess the momentary switches and give him a more graphic way to control the layout.

Frog Juicer - How is it wired to the frog?
I'm interested in the Frog Juicer (sold by one of MRH sponsors) but have been unable to find information on how the frog is wired into the Juicer - I don't mean at the board, but how is the wire attached to the frog? Before I emailed the manufacturer I wanted to see if anyone one the forum can expain it to me. Obiviously the frog would have to be made out of metal.
Thanks!
Rick
