Fibre Board ceiling tiles an alternative to homasote ?

I'm hunting an alternative to homasote board. Our local hardware stall in Australia stock compressed fiber ceiling tiles
and was wondering if they may be a similar density to hold track spikes for hand laying.

Here is an example.  would be looking for one that isn't "pin hole" texture.

Layout Room Entrance, Swing-Down Bridge(s), 3 of them in combo

I'm building a double deck layout in its own handi-house shed  It has a large wide door at the entrance that needs a couple of 'entrance bridges' that can be moved aside relatively quickly. Because of the large width of the opening I am thinking it should be a 'split bridge' type like the bascule type where both of the two sides would swing up.

Querying space between tracks in small yard

Querying space between tracks in small yard..  photo below is what I planned but compared to the 2nd photo I seem to have to put the tracks closer. what would be best practice here.

Looking to Hire a Consultant

I'm reaching out to the MRH community. I'm looking for help with the one area of model railroading that I have no experience in... track planning.

I'm looking to hire a consultant to help with the "high-level" track plan for my HO Scale layout. Proto-freelance.

Building the layout room

After a couple of years I have finally built into my spare room for the Lipakovo line, a Russian TTe narrow gauge logging line. Discussion about the track plan is HERE.

The first TOMA competition was the impetus for actually building a layout rather than just thinking about it, and the modules I have designed are very lightweight (the subject of another blog post to come...)

The main requirements for building into the room were:

SL2 Transition from flat areas to spline

Hi Joe:

In the June 2018 MRH you shared your tentative construction plans for SL2. I found your prototype most interesting, but I am wondering in the case of grades in a layout, how you would handle the transition between what may be plywood in yard areas to spline roadbed elsewhere and still keep the same ends (top and bottoms assuming shadowbox) of each module mating correctly? In other words, would you going to put the plywood also on risers to match up with the spline or?

Kind regards,

Bill

Waterproofing Plywood

I'm building a layout in a shed external to my house in the hot, humid state of FL. While I have the shed under a carport and insulated well, it does seem to remain cool for the most part. But I do not intend to run the AC full time, so it will experience temp and humidity swings.

Many of my decks/shelfs will be good grade, multiply layered 3/4" plywood, which I intend to try and 'seal up' as much as possible against moisture absorption, and the subsequent warping that can occur.

Modules in storage for two years now warped

Since my last update I have moved and a couple years went by. I put my two modules together front to front with the pink styrofoam in between them. They are both 2’ by 4’ plywood pieces.  I wrapped them in plastic movers wrap and then ignored them for awhile in the basement . Now I want to get back into modeling. I put them on the kitchen counter and noticed that the plywood is warped on both of them. I don’t want to throw them out and start again.
