Bill Miller Car #2

On 3/26/13 I made a MRH blog post about some construction articles in “HO Model Trains “Exclusively HO Scale”” by Bill Miller. I recently completed the second car based on his articles. It was an L. C. L. container gondola car used by the Delaware & Hudson and it appeared in the April 1952 issue. The thing that attracted me was the fact that A. C. Gilbert made a similar car starting in 1955 for his American Flyer tinplate line. AF used their basic gondola which differed a bit from the prototype that Mr. Miller wrote about. It was numbered #916.

Railbus to Coach

Having recently received yet 2 more rail bus sets that refused to run 'out-of-the-box', I decided to scrap the mechanical bits of all my busses and use the bodies as a basis for a coach.

Bashing the trolleys was great fun and produced some really nice coaches imho, so I'm taking the same route with the busses.

I use two bodies, either the motor car or the trailer and will cut (*) them to form an eight window coach. Luck has it that this new body has the perfect length for a flat car !

What is the average lifespan of a railroad car?

Can anyone tell me what the average lifespan of the different types of railroad cars are?

E.g. Boxcars, Tankers, Hoppers etc..

Tsunami Sound

Okay, I've got several sound equipped locomotives, and have for some time. But, oddly enough, no Tsunami's or Soundtraxx of any sort.

Until tonight.... I bought one last weekend as a "Okay, I survived another Army Reserve Annual Training" self-present.

Okay, now I know what you guys are talking about. That is nice sound. I'm going to have to go in and see what I can do to tweak the others now....

San Juan's Evolution Coupler in On30

The Ruphe and Tumbelle Railway has a complete hodge podge of couplers on it's fleet. There is the Bachmann EZ Mate HO couplers that come with their stuff (although I do raise them up to the proper height), Kadee On3 couplers and a few other various and sundry models. The reason I'm in this mess is that all of these fool couplers actually couple! Though sometimes getting dissimilar ones apart is a trial. Because they all "work" together I have just left whatever came with the model on.
