Locos - Rolling stock (general)
My treat for the day
I had heard that the Kansas City Southern, Christmas Train was making its rounds and pulled up their schedule. They were scheduled to be n Newton Mississippi today, starting at 4 this afternoon. They had a note on their site their executive train would be transporting it. This is the F7 series of Streamliner locomotives.
Here's a link to the schedule http://www.kcsouthern.com/en-us/pdf/2016-kcs-holiday-express-schedule.pdf
BlueRail and Dead Rail in 2 Rail O Scale – a journey, an adventure and a success.
I now have three locomotives using BlueRail blue tooth boards and Staunton dual battery BPS boards. And I will never have to wire any of the 25-30 turnouts, nor any sidings or spurs on my layout.
Sergent Couplers?
I am just about to commit to changing my couplers to Sergent. I bought a few to try and am really impressed with them (and the support from the mfgr.). They obviously look way much better than Kadees, however, I don't have a layout (yet) to test them on and am wondering about using them on an operating layout. I prefer to cut the "hoses" off the Kadee couplers and use a skewer for uncoupling, so using the wand won't be a problem.
I'm interested in any and all responses from those who have tried them.

Looking for a painter
Hello everyone,
I'm looking for someone who does custom painting on HO scale diesels. I have the decals and paint (unless they have the same color I'm using). If they can add decoders (non-sound), that would be a plus. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. (Moderators-if this post is not acceptable, please delete and let me know).
Thanks to all who reply!

Can this part be purchased in metal?
Moving and the handling of my reefer over the years has taken its toll. This is a pic of it years ago without the missing steps.
This step is missing on both sides. Does anyone know if a more durable one is available in metal?
Weathering: Capillary action
My favorite part of the hobby is weathering. I've definitely learned some reliable techniques that work well for me. I've attached some pics for your viewing interest :)
One skill I have yet to become consistent on is getting capillary action to work. I do the usual dullcote application before starting any weathering. From there I prefer to use acrylics and powders. I have used oils in the past; the results can be good...drying time, too long.
I welcome any insight, tips, technique suggestions.
January 2017 issue cover sneak peek
Actor Michael Gross (who Ken Patterson interviewed in his Nov 2016 issue What's Neat column), is also the cover story of the Jan 2017 issue. He does a detailed step-by-step of his rolling stock weathering methods. From the cover photo you can see that Michael's a very capable prototype modeler.
the Fleet grows
Winter is arriving and so is my fleet of HBM&S GE 70 ton locomotives.
just about done the decals so I can spray with dull coat.
Then to get the hand rails back on and custom pass through walkway on number 8. It will be the same as #7's walkway.
Will there be a 5,6 or 9?
Time will tell.
