Water Column
I just finished putting together a Tichy water column. I've never done a water column before and the directions are best described as 'sketchy', but after studying them for a while and making a trip to the LHS for a #80 drill bit it went together without too much difficulty. I tried mixing India ink and alchol, Polyscale roof brown, Polyscale boxcar red, and a Floquil rust pen to wether the concrete pad. I also used some acryllic gloss medium on the pad in an attempt to simulate water (but it's pretty hard to see that effect)
Anyway, here is the result
What is a Museum Quality Model?
This question comes up frequently. In doing some research for ship models on my layout I came across this US Navy document. It is interesting. Note the lack of styrene as an acceptable material. Also gives you an idea why government contracts are so expensive, note the documentation section.
Resin casting
I'm interested in learning how to make resin castings. Could someone point me to an article or website that would help, or perhaps post a reply with tips, technique, etc.
Also, has anyone had experience with benchtop injection molding? How are results? What kind of costs to get going?
Thanks

Advice please on contest models
O.K., I finally took the plunge and entered a structure (my Roy's Safe & Lock) into judging at this past weekend SER convention in Birmingham, AL.. The structure was never built with the intention of entering it into a contest, but there was a challenge between our division and the host division to see who could bring the most models. The model I took is a kitbash of (2) DPM #104 "B.
Updates to the Bagnell Branch - town added to the helix.
One of my future plans to to change the layout's theme to a Rock Island mainline and let the Mopac operate the small switching yard. I just finished Blair Lines Gerald RI depot and placed it on the right of way to see how it looked with a freight running by. l
Seadog Boats & Marine Supply
I recently completed Seadog Boats & Marine Supply, which sits on the tideflats waterfront. It is not served by rail. The basic structure was scratchbuilt as a freight house. I converted it to a waterfront marine supply and fuel dealer by removing the loading dock and scenery base. The piers are leftovers from a Walthers Pier and Traveling Crane Kit with added stripwood bracing and details including the fuel service pipes under the decking. The pilings were weathered to give them a well aged look.
Building Mockup Material
Hi all-
I'm looking to start putting some building mock ups in place on my layout this weekend and wanted any suggestions on materials to use. Ideally I'd like to keep the amount of interior bracing I have to do to a minimum so my thinking was that I would pick up some foamboard (the posterboard, not the insulation) or gator board but I'm open to any suggestions.
Thanks!

Model Tech Studios Kits
I am curious if anyone has any comments on this line of kits, specifically O scale. Do they go together well, are the instuctions good and most important-are they worth the rather highish asking price for a non-wood kit?
Thanks,
Peter
Turtle Railroading...
I've been practicing "turtle railroading" lately - slow but steady is getting quite a bit accomplished. In the last few weeks I've done the following:
1. Completed a new swing bridge across the entrance aisle to the layout:
(early photo - roadbed for the siding is being glued down with AZ Rock & Mineral ballast as weights)
