Scenery - Structures

Logging Camp and Saw Mill trackside industries

I'm looking for suggestions on a small logging scene....HO scale.....for an area that is L-shaped 36" x36" x 24" wide. What kind of buildings/equipment would you suggest, and is there usually a main line going through the scene with a couple of spurs.....? Thanks......!

Richlawn Railroad - The Henderson Building - Close to completion

I'm reaching the point of completion / abandonment of the Henderson Building; that is, I'm close to finishing it, but sick of working on it.  It is at this point that I put it on the shelf and let it age while I start another structure with the hopes of returning to do the final finish before putting it on the layout.

Interchangable Structures.

The problem - more structures than I have MRR real estate.   (Both made and still in their boxes)

A notion to be explored.

I'm thinking that if I could cut two identical squares of plexiglass (or sign board) and indent this square into my town, then I could have inter-changable buildings.  The old Woolworths is removed and a new high rise goes in it's place.

Anyone done something like this???

DYI Paint Booth

I'm renovating an old cold storage room as my model train workshop room.

Before I frame in one of the outside walls, I want to put in a vent for a future airbrush spray booth (yet to be built or bought).  I am planning on using a 2" plastic pipe - have some left over from a recent furnace installation - the pipe is used to vent my new high efficiency furnace.  I see most paint booths use a 4" aluminum pipe commonly used to vent your clothes dryer.

Shelby Station and Crew Change

On the station track as Shelby there is about 6 inches to the wall.  The backdrop creates depth to the scene and a natural transition from the layout to the horizon.  The station is a walthers kit and there are 32 (little people) LPs from Preiser and Woodland Scenic.  You can see some VIA cars on the storage track.  They are from Rapido.

Start of some scenery

It's been a while since I posted any pictures so I thought that I would post a couple of some recent scenery addition. These are a couple of shots of the early scenery progress in the town of Brookside.

coal mine

I am thinking about scratch building some of the structures seen above ground at a coal mine in HO scale. I have found hundreds of great photos and am wondering if scratch builders build from photos, actual plans, or just from their imagination. If built from photos how do you determine dimensions? Are there any web sites where I can get dimensional drawings? thanks for any input.
