Building a working Level Crossing

I need a level crossing on my layout and wanted to install a working crossing using either gates or barrier arms.  Having searched the net I couldn't find anything that met my needs so I figured I might have to design my own.

Static grass applicator

Hi all,

I've recently made a static grass applicator, using the parts of an electronic fly swatter, and a tea strainer.

Removing Dried Glue

I am building a bridge(styrene) and I've been sloppy with getting glue(CA and Pro Weld ) on the exposed

areas.  Is their anything that can safely remove the dried glue without damaging the plastic?

Monster Models & Laser Works

I recently purchased a Monster Models & Laser Works kit. It's their Starter Structures Part# HOSS01.

With this offer you could have a custom engraved Cornice as long as it fit with in the specs given by Jimmy. I figured why not. Here's the custom engraved cornice.

Coarse and fines.

Working with the paving sand I picked up today.  I sifted some and separated out the fine material, used some thinned white glue brushed over the inside of the cut and sprinkled it on, letting it stick naturally and run down into the ditches.

This is how it turned out without any fiddling or brushing.

Paver sand

I bought a 50 pound bag of paver sand today.  Sifting it through a fine sieve yields about 3:1 coarse to fines.  Since I model in N scale I am more interested in the fine material.  I went to Harbor Freight and bought one of their 2 drum rock tumblers.  I filled each drum about half full and tossed in a couple of heavy bolts to try and create a sort of ball milling action.  Here;s hoping it reduces the coarse material a bit finer.  I'll check it in a couple of days and let you know if it worked.   :)

Herbs as scenic material.

So I have a carousel of cooking herbs that has about 18 containers.  I was going to dump them and use it for storage of various items but then it hit me.  Maybe they could be used as scenic items.

Is there a down side to using herbs on the layout?

Thanks

Pictures of interior lighting wiring

I want to add interior and exterior lighting to a much of my urban layout. Over the last 6 months or more I have purchased a number of types of light bulbs; Model Power peel and stick, LED, grain of rice, and fiber optic.
