Red Mountain & Silvertown Railway - feedback wanted!

It's about time I made my new layout plans official. My old layout, The Grimstad Line, is being rebuilt in my model railroad shop, but a new layout is already in it's initial stages of construction in my new home. This is going to be a lengthy post, so please bear with me.

Early Stage of layout planning

I am posting up a layout plan that is in the early stages of developement.  The room I have is in the basement and is currently used to store household stuff, mostly stuff we boxed up and moved from our previous house 1.5 years ago.  I have to do some wiring, lighting and sheetrock, along with going through and removing some stuff before I can start building a railroad.  In the meantime I am starting some planning, while I sort out and make room.

HO and N scale figurines. Any way of making adjustments?

I'm looking at painting my own figurines for HO and N scale. Buy the bag of unpainted figurines for cheap and then paint accordingly. I need to change some arm and leg positions of some to reflect the scene they will be in. Like sitting or arms in the air (volley ball game). what is the best and safest way to achieve this? Heat them with a low temp soldering iron? Hot air gun? Blow dryer? Warm water?

what have you guys done to reposition your people into the positions you need them in?

Suggestions?

Rocks with trains!

I think a few of you asked to see the rockwork w/ actual trains in the pictures.  Still prepping for the RailFun open houses next weekend, I've declared the rockwork good enough for the moment, and restored operations.  Here's a few photos...

The Breitenbach - Rosenheim Railroad

I'm about to start a second layout, a German themed layout in H0 that will fill the space next to the G&AM.

N Scale Staging Yard - Track Spacing Question

Hi all,

I'm ready to build two end-point staging yards for my (first) N scale shelf layout (see pic for current progress) and had a couple of questions before I start:

I need 11 staging tracks in each yard to support my operating scheme. How wide do you think I need to construct the shelves for the yard?

Engine Facility Question

I recently posted this picture of the Atherton engine facility asking if anyone could spot the deliberate error.
