A Technical Oddity

While testing the tack on my first constructed section of my new layout, I came across an oddity.

While test running my Athearn SD40 with econami sound the locomotive would stall at approximately the same spot(s). The engine sound would go down to idle, and the headlight remained on. If I bumped up the throttle just a tad, it would start moving again (I'm using a Digitrax Zephyr). So, I cleaned the rail (again!) and check connections etc, etc.

No change.

Bachman 0-6-0 saddle tank dcc sound

Hello All, hope all had a great Christmas. I want to know if anyone has or knows which sound decoder will work in this steam engine? Basically size wise.   God Bless Ya   Dave

Is AdaFruit Metro suitable for DCC++

I'm wanting to set up a DCC++ station, and looking on the Adafruit site, it appears the Adafruit Metro is really an Arduino Uno.  Before I order one, can anyone confirm that the Adafruit Metro is suitable for DCC++?

Thanks!

A decoder with a sudden short circuit. Is this possible?

I have a Walthers HO scale locomotive with a factory installed sound decoder. It was purchased about 15 months ago and used a few times. I got it out of storage a week ago. It worked normally for about 10 feet and then I shut it down because someone arrived at the house. A couple of days later I powered it back up and it shorted out immediately. I tried other sections of the layout and it still indicated a short. Other DCC sound locos work fine on the layout.

Hi All,

Issues with RR-Cirkits LocoNet and Tam Valley and JMRI

Well I'm not sure where to start.  So I will start with the problems that I am having.  First off I am trying to set up a stand alone LocoNet using RR- CirKits LocoBuffer-USB which I have no idea if its even working.(any way to test this??)  Next I have a Tam Valley QuadLN_S that I am using for servo turnout control.  I think I have set things up correctly but I cant get a servo to work when I have added it the turnout table in JMRI.  I looked to see if JMRI had a forum and gave up on that.  So I am hoping someone here can give me a hand.  I have

simple but useful almost free oscilloscope

My son built the simple device shown below according to instructions he found on the following website:

Digitrax with PSX circuit breakers problem resolved (hopefully).

Digitrax using PSX circuit breakers (CB).

During operating sessions, while several trains were running, sometimes all the CB's would start flashing on and off shutting down the entire layout until the short was corrected.

It took me awhile but I was, finally, able to recreate the problem.  I put an engine on each power block district that each CB was controlling and then put a quarter in each block until the problem occurred.

I emailed Larry Meier at DCC specialties and he gave me a few things to try.

Terminals for Tortoise

I found these terminals that I can use on my Tortoise machines.  Digikey part # ED2637-nd  Manufactor's part # OSTTE040161.  Less than $2 with quantity buying.

Neopixel Building Lighting

Has anybody used Neopixels to light their structures? Looks like you can use an Arduino Nano to both power and control them individually including light intensity and color. I ordered some to mess with, but was wondering what if any experience anyone on here had with them.

I ran across this video that made me aware of the technology: >
