March 1, 2011 - server issues

We moved to a new more powerful server a few weeks ago and we're continuing to have issues with our internet service provider - the latest of which was this morning.

We have been contemplating a move to a different provider because of all the issues we've had of late with our current provider - and we've now decided this move needs to be a high priority because our current provider is just not giving us the stability and performance we need.

A Little Bit Of Levity - If Novelists Were Model Railroades

Something Wicked This Way Comes - Ray Bradbury. Bradbury writes about his experiences in the basement building his model railroad. Seems he is a really decent carpenter and makes bulletproof benchwork, handlays track, does outstanding job of wiiring layout,  but mostly buys RTR equipment. Gets slammed by by self-proclaimed expert for not being a "real" modeler.

When is the March issue coming?

When is the new issue coming? I am waiting with baited breathe. Can't wait to see what's in it.

Today's site updates

We've done a couple of site updates today:

1. Turned the new recent posts list back on. This list only shows forums, blogs and eZine comment page changes. All the "housekeeping" changes that used to show are now filtered out. Also you can click on a heading to sort the list by that heading. Finally, if you're looking for your recent posts (used to be on a tab), you now need to go to My account > Track to find that list.

Website Font

Is anyone else having problems with the font on the new web page? The banner at the top left hand corner and all of the adds are fine, but the font in the posts and everywhere else on the site isn't right. Parts of certain letters are cut off, some letters are bunched together and others don't line up correctly. Is there some change to the display settings that's needed or do I just need to change my glasses?

Read count

Is there a way an author can see the number of readers for a blog or post. Responses may be low or zero but that may not mean no one read it.

If there isn't can one be added? Just so the author can see, not everyone.

Login settings reset

With all the random logout problems today we had to do a site reset which flushed all the sessions and reset the login.

This means you may have been suddenly logged out and could not log in for a few minutes. Now that the reset is done you should be able to log in again and (we hope) stay logged in while you navigate the site.

"My Posts" tab

Please excuse my inability here, but I can't find the tab for "My Posts".  I use the tab to see replies to my recent posts.  Does it still exist, and if so where?

slide show

OK, you can all beat on me for saying it, but I'm just not crazy about the new slide show.  I got a lot of pleasure out of those random "This is a model" shots, partly, I realize, because they stood still and let me savour them as long as I wanted.  More important, when I went to another page - blog, posting, whatever - there wasn't something at the top of the page always changing and distracting me.  Sorry, but now the first thing I do is scroll the slide show off the top of the screen, and that doesn't do justice to the magnificent models that are  portrayed.
