Securing couplers on elevated track

I am building an elevated loop in my son's bedroom. I bought a PROTO 2000 E7 engine and a full set of Rivarossi passenger cars. They already have knuckle couplers and I added the appropriate amount of weight to each car. I am testing everything at ground level and when I run at high speed I experience a lot of decoupling. The curves are 28 to 30" radius, so it's not because of tight turns.

Plastic wheelsets as load material

Hey all,

Due to using metal wheel sets as a standard on my layout, I find myself with large quantities of surplus plastic wheel sets from ACCURAIL and other kits.

When life gives you parts, make open car loads!  Eg wheelsets on flatcar or gondola.  However my surplus items are equipped with pointy axle ends, and quite unacceptable as loads.  My Google fu was unproductive.

Decal frustrations

Well, tonight was NOT the night for modeling.  I was hoping relax in the train room a little after a busy day.  Tried decaling some boxcars.  Generally decaling has gone well for me.  For some reason it didn't go well tonight.  They adhered very wrinkly.  Then, I tried cleaning one off and made an even bigger mess.

If anybody has any encouragement for a very UN-relaxing night of modeling or ideas how to fix/improve my decaling feel free to share.

Life Like 0-4-0 kitbash ?

As usual, I found a bargain box at a trainshow loaded full of kitbash and detailing fodder.

I also found an old Life Like 0-4-0 switcher that runs just fine. This thing is built surprisingly well, but I don't think I want it. It has traction tires on both sides of the rear driver and the siderods are kinda cheezy looking.

I thought about throwing a cheap decoder in it, adding some power pickups on the tender and maybe some SMD headlights.

Covered Hoppers - Cement

Are covered hoppers used for cement service always the 2 bay variety? I researched this as best I could and didn't really find a satisfactory answer.

Color match

I'm looking to match the orange color of Bessmer & Lake Erie. Has anyone have a lead or formula to get this shade of paint. GN and AT&SF oranges are too bright. Thanks in advance for any information,

My best proofreading is done after I press send.

Metal 60' HO log car

Hi, we have a 60 or longer modern log car at our club.  Its all metal.  Does anyone have any idea who made these or any information about them.   All help will be greatly appreciated.

Accessing Decoder in Atlas DASH B40-8W, under radiator

I've been experimenting with a number of different locos I acquired over the years,...and this one is presenting a little problem to me.

ESU Decoder Programming?

I am contemplating buying an Atlas locomotive that comes with ESU LokSound.  Around here, Tsumami seems to be the popular choice to the point our resident DCC expert can get worked up about it when comparing the two.  He convinced me I could not program my Tsunami decoders on the programming track and was talked into buying JMRI decoder pro.  Now he tells me if I go with LokSound I can't use Decoder Pro but need to buy their programming tool and like Tsunami can not use the programming track.  Is this correct?
