Working with decals that cover the full side of the car

Good morning,

I've purchased some large scale decals like the following:

http://www.moondograilcars.com/product_p/ich001.htm

I haven't found any resources or tips for using decals that cover the entire car.  Before use get the decals wet, any advice to avoid wrinkling or ruining these decals?  It seems like I've got one shot to get it right and I'd like to get it right the first time.

Thanks for any help!

Atlas DCC Shorting Problem

Good morning.

Recently I purchased a very nice Atlas HH600 on Ebay. It is factory-equipped with a decoder and sound. As soon as I turn on the layout, the loco shorts out until I tip it on its side. Then the short stops. Is this a problem with the sound, the lighting or should I just change out the decoder. Sound is not important at all to me.

Athearn RTR SD38 "Cogging" Issues

Hi All,

I have a small switching layout set up temporarily until I can get to work on something more permanent. It's basically an expanded Inglenook design using (2) Atlas #6 turnouts and a handful of 9" straights. I have power feeds in 3 locations, one at each end of the "main" and one in one of the sidings. Of course the permanent layout will use flex and perhaps ME turnouts, but for now I was hoping this would suffice.

Apparently not.

UP RS3?

I have a Kato RS3 (N scale) decorated in UP livery. I really like this loco but I’ve been unable to find any reference to UP having an RS3 on its roster. If they didn’t own any RS3s, are there any other RS type locos owned by UP that the RS3 could credibly stand in for? My model doesn’t have a road number so if you could provide one that would be a real help. Thanks guys.

Rail fanning drones and research for scenery

Was trawling YouTube, as you do when doing research. Came across this channel. Nice mix of drone rail fannings.

Much better aspect than the old standard, stand by rails. Especially helpful  since you can see the tops of the railcars( for weathering) And for scenery research colour, depth, texture etc

Covered Hoppers decals (some specific pellet car questions)

Hi all,

I got some decals for some ACF 5250 covered hoppers  and i was wondering if they were indeed carrying plastic pellets and if they are era appropriate for me (1969-1970). I looked extensively for a good amount of time at photos in various sites but i cannot confirm some things for these cars.

Anyone have ditch light problems w/Atlas HO GP38s?

Modeling the Iowa Interstate in my era, I needed a bunch of Atlas GP38s.  I've been very happy with these models for the most part, but have noticed something odd since converting to Loksound and installing ditch lights in them a few years ago.

Do they even make one of these?

Hey all,

Next thing on the to-do list for the layout is building half a dozen boxcars, 36' boxcars that were retrofitted with narrow gauge trucks, to be specific (gotta love an obscure local prototype!).  Luckily, Accurail makes a very nice model of the exact boxcar my prototype used in HO scale. A pair of narrow gauge trucks adapted to it and I would be in business....

The only problem is, I model in O scale.

Link to the Accurail boxcar on their website for example, since I don't own the model or the picture.
