What's a 13' Turn?

Hi,

I'm thinking about to buy the Zephyr Kato N 106090-2 Chicago Burlington and Quincy EMD E5A and Silver Streak. I asked a dealer about the minimum radius and he answered: "The minimum radius is a 13' turn as the tightest turns possible for this set." In Germany we measure the radius in millimeters and I would have understood an answer in inches. But what does a 13' turn mean? 13 ft? That's about 4 meters, that can't be what he means.

Regards,
Stefan

Reboxx vs Intermountain - Does it really matter which Wheelsets I use?

I have been told that Reboxx and Intermountain wheelsets are produced by the same manufacturing plant, the difference is Intermountain offers just one axle length, while Reboxx is specifically designed for particular trucks on different model manufactuers (i.e. Athearn, Accurail, ExactRail, etc).

Bachmann DD40AX decoder ?

Could anyone tell me what decoder is that's used in the h0 Bachmann DD40AX ( non-sound version) ?

The decoder has the following code on the heat shrink tube: [012CB] which doesn't ring a bell,

the exploded view shows it as  H4915#DCC06 .

Could it be a 44915 ? I wonder because the loco has a 'strobe light' which is driven by the decoder and the 44915 doesn't have that option ?

TIA

cheers, Leo

DCC install help? MRC 1907 in Atlas S4

I'm having a wee problem with this install and hope somebody can give me some advice.

This decoder is designed as a drop in replacement specifically for this loco - however, it seems that my particular model might be an older version or something as there appears to be one less screw hole than expected by the decoder.

the red arrow shows the screw which is installed, but there's no hole in the chassis to accept a screw at the purple arrow.

New Athearn Mechanical Reefer, Correct Era

Athearn is releasing a line of mechanical 57' reefers in 2013.

http://www.athearn.com/Search/Default.aspx?SearchTerm=FGE+Reefer+ATHG&Ca...

I model the early to mid-80s era and wondering if any of the "non-modernized" versions would fit that era. Only information I have been able to find is the BN "green" paint scheme was introduced in the 1990s. (One post so that may have been incorrect)

Any information would be extremely helpful.

Extreme diesel weathering ...

Hello everyone.

Hope you enjoy the following images. Hopefully the color looks right as I seem to have an issue with color profile on my end. Let me know how they look on your monitors if you don't mind. This is a sneak peak of some of the Allagash diesel roster, which has recently been weathered. I was really getting tired of looking at a roster of clean locos. it was time to get 'em dirty! I've also included a couple of pics of Atlantic Great Eastern (AGE) Alco RS11s as well. The AGE interchanges with the AGR and we have a run-through agreement.

Rolling Stock Graffiti

I was doing a little searching on the google machine trying to find some go-by photos for weathering.  I found this gem and thought I would ask, What are some of the more interesting rolling stock graffiti/art you have come across?

Cracked gears

I know many of us have had or are having this problem. Cracked gears on your axles. I'm hoping to come up with a fix that is easy to do for those that don't have a lathe or access to one.
