Rivarossi Dreyfuss Hudsons-Prototypical?

Hello,

I just got something I've been chasing for a while. It's a rivarossi dreyfuss hudson. I'm still working towards obtaining all of the cars. While I was searching, I found several examples with the scullin disk drivers, but they had centipede tenders, and the engine and tender were of a darker color. I have never seen any photos or mention of these in this color, or with the centipede tender. Is this prototypical? I may look into this model as I like the drivers and the darker color. Thanks.

Great Northern Simplified Patch and Paint Match

Hi everyone,

I am doing a BN patch job with renumbering on a GN Athearn RTR GP-35. It is similar to the one below. My question is what is a good match for the GN simplified green? It always looked more brown to me but I do have some red/green colorblindness. Is there a color out there? Do I have to mix my own? I do not have an airbrush and was looking to see if anyone had experience here on doing color matched patches. By the way, the color does not have to be perfectly matched, considering 5 years of heavy use and the fact that it is a patch job.

How well could a flatcar stand up to a 5" gun mounted on it?

I'm going to be building a flatcar with a 5"/25 naval gun mounted on it.  Could a 1920's vintage flatcar stand up to firing it?  Or would the recoil shake the car to pieces in short order?  Obviously, it would need outriggers to fire in any direction but almost directly ahead.  Would high angle firing i=or relatively flat trajectory be harder on the equipment, and how much work might the tack need later?

I plan to order the gun once the hurricane is over...Irma looks like bad news.

Weighting and Superweighting Rolling Stock

Someone today referenced me to this issue of MRH in reference to a TOMA award for a seaport design.

As I was going thru the mag this article on weighting and super weighting of rolling stock I found very interesting

Painting steam locomotive running gear

I am going to be repainting some of my steam locomotives, and am curious about the best approach to painting the running gear, and possibly adding "whitewalls" to the drivers.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should/shouldn't do?

Thanks, Skoti

Oriental Powerhouse 2-8-8-2 Boiler Removal

Hello,

I am new to brass and need help removing the boiler to diagnose a short.  Does anyone have any tips for removing it as I do not see any obvious screws.

Sparking on left front wheel.  Brakes are plastic, so I am having trouble finding the issue.

Thanks, Pete

2-8-8-2 Locos, simple and/or compound, real ones and Proto Heritage models

Were ALL of the full scale 2-8-8-2 Y3's built as compound engines/,...or did a few roads have them built (or modified) to be simple engines??

coupler to fit older Stewart F3 ?

I have an older Stewart F3A loco with Kato-made chassis, purchased second-hand at a bargain price. It appeared to have been hardly used. I installed regular #5-type couplers with shortened coupler boxes to fit inside the loco coupler mount, which fit and function fine except the coupler height is a bit too high and a shorter shank would be preferred for closer coupling.

LifrLike N scale SW9/1200

Hello all,

Pretty new to this great hobby (was into HO as a boy....years ago) and now getting into N gauge.I`m slowly getting things accumulated for my layout and getting close to starting.

Anyway ,before I really knew anything about the hobby(things have really changed since the Tyco days.....about 42 years ago) I purchased a LifeLike brand new SW9/1200 CP Rail Item # 78990.It really looks very nice in detail and construction, but now i`m not sure if this Loco will run on a DCC system.
