Prototype Railroading

What is meant by "high cars"?
I have some paperwork describing a train like this, "It's a hot piggybacker with three to five high cars tacked on ahead of the caboose at Cumberland". This is describing a B&O train on the St. Louis division in the later 70s.
Would that be referring to high cube box cars? Or what?
thanks

Quinnimont WV Water Tower
So I am modeling Quinnimont West Virginia. In the late summer of 1943. Part of that is the somewhat unique water tower. It was tall with steel legs and was a so called "typical" C&O water tower. As such I have the standard drawings for it.
However the C&O never built anything the way the drawings showed they where more of a suggestion the actual plans so everything is a bit different from one to the next.

Genesee & Wyoming Industries purchases the Providence & Worcester
Genesee & Wyoming Industries purchased the stock of the Providence & Wooster Railroad for $125 million. At $25 per share, it was 53% over the closing bell price of P&W shares at Friday's closing bell. This purchase gives GWI the majority of the New England rail market. I would not be surprised to see Norfolk Southern take over Guilford Transportation/Pan Am Railways.
Best time to railfan in Folkston
I am contemplating a trip to Folkston, Georgia--specifically the Folkston Funnel. What are the best times to watch the trains? Also, how hot does it get at the platifrm?
Thanks!

UP844 stop in Greeley this morning
Lucky kids get a cab tour of 844 during its stopover in Greeley this morning. As a part of Cheyenne Frontier Days the UP844 makes excursion runs between Cheyenne and Denver. The old Greeley depot (now Chamber of Commerce) and the Colorado Model Railroad Museum are behind the loco and cars in this view. too. So it was a perfect setting.

Farmrail paint recommendations
Friends!
Can anyone recommend paint colors for Farmrail locomotives and their caboose?

Today's Shorpy has some interesting trackwork featured
Today's Shorpy post has some interesting trackwork:

I love how the two lines curve off from each other in the middle. That is some good looking track work. Nice smooth curves, the switch points right on top of the previous switch. This would look great on a model railroad. Very inspiring. Not quite Bronx terminal but interesting none-the-less.
"The Dakotan" and Other Pike-Sized Trains
After purchasing a 1954 Great Northern Timetable, I remembered the great MR series of articles regarding pike-sized trains.

I am considering modeling "The Dakotan" since it was the only train serving Kandiyohi, MN in the 1950's. How many of you model short passenger trains (without compression) on your layout and what do you do for operations?
