Identify this brass engine
So, perusing the tables at a train show today and I found what looked like a really nice brass 4-8-2 for about $40. I was told it only ran "so-so" and that the boiler was the only thing that was brass. I know my eyesight is getting bad as I age, but it looks like a complete brass engine with a cheap Rivarossi tender. It is some kind of strange mixture and I would just like to know more about it. Pictures follow in the next post.
HO Precision Craft FA1/FA1 – back/back or elephant style?
In the mid 2000s, Precision Craft Models made an HO scale FA1/FA1 model with ESU LokSound DCC. The pair of models only had one decoder which controlled both units via jumper wires, thus the two units needed to be operated as a pair.
As manufactured by Precision Craft, were these FA1/FA1 pairs wired to run back-to-back, or elephant style? I'm guessing back-to-back since that was probably where the jumper wires were.
Cutting down molded on ladder details
So, I have several old Athearn blue box 50' plug door boxcars that I'm modernizing to my 1980 era. I have removed the roofwalks, filled the holes and matched the roof contour with no problem. My problem is the molded on ladders. I tried once before to remove them and the outcome was not anything I was happy with. Does anyone have a method they use or tool or technique that they could share? Or is this just a practice makes perfect kind of thing?

Wright Trak Models
All,
Has anyone recently ordered or heard from Gary Wright at Wright Trak Models? I ordered one of his NYC Caboose kits back in late November. He called after the order was placed and said he was waiting on photoetched parts. I no longer have his number, and the order was supposed to have shipped by now.
I have been unsuccessful in reaching him by e-mail since then. I have tried messaging him on his site and via his e-mail, no luck.
R/C Steam Crane 1:43 Narrow gauge
Earlier this year I supplimented the equipment on my layout "Denton Brook' with a narrow gauge self-propelled 'steam' crane. This is all 0 gauge (1:43), and the gauge is 14mm (scale 2ft gauge).
However, it needed to be a fully functioning radio controlled crane, to lift cable drums on the layout, loading and unloading the lorries that drive into the yard.
Walthers's Passenger Cars, Atlantic Coast Line
A couple of weeks ago I acquired some really nice 85' modern passenger cars that came from an estate sale. They had no markings on them as to manufacturer? They appear to be of a very high quality, and are already set up for lighting via their truck pic-ups.
I inquired with a few other modelers that seemed to be pretty sure they were Walthers brand, and that often Walters cars did not had a brand printed on their bottoms, as Walthers has many different manufacturers produce product for themselves??
Casting my own cars
Starting another round of casting. I built several resin kits that used flat castings and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be so I decided to try building a gon from flat castings.
I studied the P&R gon diagrams and there were 3 gons that used the same stake spacing on the sides, and the same ends. Two used the same underframe. Class GMa had 1 board high sides with 8 stakes, class GHa had 3 board high sides with 8 stakes and a flat bottom, class HS-a had 3 board sides with 8 stakes and a single hopper bottom.
Proto 2000 E Units
Regarding the Proto 2000 "E" passenger diesels.... Do they have the common gear problems that I keep reading about with other Proto 2000 diesels? Or are those problems confined to a specific model?
Thanks,
Al Carter
