Stainless Steel (Shiny) Coal Hoppers

Hi Everyone,

I tried a search but couldn't find anything - i saw a little while ago some shiny (i think they were stainless) coal hoppers in NS or BNSF

Anyone know of them? I'm trying to find some to buy -  i think they might be Athearn

Thanks in advance
Russ

Remote operations of Cars

This thread is about what you would do with a remote operated car. By this I mean if you could stand next to your layout and using remote controls such as DCC what would you like to be able to do, and what would you this allow you to do.

Note that if you do not want to do ANYTHING remotely that is fine, but that is not what this thread is about so please do not post that type of comment here. This thread is for that that maybe interested in the possibilities that remote control of things other then just forward/backward/lights and sound on an engine.

HO GP7's Bmann vs. Athearn Genesis

I don't want to open up a can of worms here, just want some general opinions. It looks like I may be able to get hold of some funds to expand my loco roster and I'm looking at GP-7s . Right now there seems to be two choices in the marketplace and they have widely varying price points. Since I have no LHS nearby to go and look at these models, I have to ask here and hope someone can give me an informed opinion.  If I buy an Athearn over a Bmann, what am I getting for the extra money? Is the quality that MUCH better....is the detail that MUCH better? What gives?

I had an article that decribed how to model DL & Ws early piggyback cars.

I have buit this, but since - moving 3 times - the hitch part has broken off. I would like to find something that describes the DL & W piggyback car; prototype picture(s) would help... :) . The model used an old Lifelike model. Though it was a unique model. I am an ERIE, DL & W... E-L enthusiast.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

What do I do with this engine? (was: I'm stupmed! What is this 0-6-0?)

I just bought this engine, thinking I was getting a Bachmann Spectrum 0-6-0T.  Now that I have it, I don't think that's what I have.  Here are the photos from ebay:

BOXCABS

I have recently shaved a brand new 44tonner body down to slip inside my old MDC boxcab and IT FITS like a glove.

Having mucked about with the crappy MDC drive for too long, trying to get it to work, I bit the bullet and got a new single motor DCC'ed 44tonner, cut the handrails width off the sides and the grilles off the hoods and a bit of a shave here and there, got it to fit.

A video worth watching, lets share this enthusiasm for trains!!!!!

Video worth Watching, Now I don't want anyone to think I am making fun of this, because I'm not, but its a shame we all don't have this guys enthusiasm. BTW if you don't smile at this, you just cant be happy.

Opinions on recent Bachmann trains please

This comes from a discussion a friend and I have been having regarding the quality of inexpensive trains these days.  Since we're both HO modelers, our knowledge and opinions relate to HO more than N.

I have suggested that when it comes to cheap trains, the best bang for the buck is a Bachmann set.  They come with metal wheels, knuckle couplers, a fairly good locomotive, and tolerable (if not great) track and power pack.  I've seen some sets going as low as $50 brand new, and you can barely buy an Athearn kit for that.
