DCC Sound for Mantua Mallet
Hi Folks
I need some advice on my first foray into DCC Sound.
I have an Ho Mantua 2-6-6-2 Logging Mallet (tender version) which is in the process of being super detailed.
I want to fit DCC sound and very much like the look of Soundtraxx Tsunami. Question is, for a small articulated should it be the medium or heavy steam version?
installing decoders in n scale steam
I have some questions on wiring a 4-8-4 bachmann, Im thinking of putting the pc board from a spectrum in the tender and wiring the loco that way. it seems most n steam decoders are in the tenders I.m also curious about some good guides for ding this pretty inexperienced but have electrical knowledge any input is appreciated. I alos have some model power engines that need lights wired considering a backup as well, all in time.
RDCs athearn or proto
I know of two types of HO scale RDCs that have been produced-athearn and proto which is better? I know the athearns are only 73' long versus 85' of the prototypes but I can aquire several athearns for the price of one proto. I know I would have to repower the athearns but I would only need three powered. Or should I do a mix of both? Protos for the powered units and athearn trailers
Decals on steam locomotives
Hi All,
I bought a BLI undecorated steam locomotive and put the microscale Santa Fe decals on the tender but it seems to have lifted and is not black like the rest of the tender.
If I remove the decals what can I do to help them blend on the tender better? Spray it in high gloss then put on the decals then cover in a dull cote? Is there a special trick for black locomotives or surfaces?

Iced Reefers
On a recent post I started talking about iced reefers.
Got me to thinking, so rather than hijacking that thread, I'll start a new one.
Imagine getting EPA approval to drip brine along the tracks today!
Help needed for Branchline HW pulmann kit
Hi all,
This is my first rolling stock kit. As you can see the roof doesn't sit flat on the body.
I would prefer not to glue it. What can I do ?
I have already learned a lot from this forum, and I have started finishing the layout room (about 30'x9') and in the meantime I start building some kits.
Thanks a lot.
Gerard.
P.S. I apologize for the bad picture, a lot of progress to make with model photography....
Parts swapping
My first attempt at online questions. I have several Rivarossi 2-8-4 Berkshires, and was looking at the Bachmann 2-8-4 as a parts supply. Does anyone have a Bachmann 2-8-4 that can measure the boiler front diameter carefully? I would like to use one for a Rivarossi replacement. The Rivarossi number boards are really rare to find. Thank you.
HO coupler of choice these days?
As most of you know by now, I've been an N scale guy most of my years as a model rail and have just recently switched to HO. However, back in the day, I started with HO. In those days, the "standard" coupler of choice was the Kadee # 5. Has that changed? What is the most popular coupler these days? Yes, I know what kind of an open ended question this is but I would like to hear any and all opinions on the various brands and types out there.

CN RSC-24 Alco diesel
Found this while surfing. Interesting locomotive. Anybody got more information on this. I'd like to see if I can scratch-bash one of these.

Accurail USRA 55 ton undec hopper question
I'm looking into starting to acquire coal hoppers for my layout. What is the difference between the Accurail series 2400 and series 2500 undec coal hoppers? The only difference I can tell is that Accurail list one series with the description "as built". In all my years in the hobby, that's a new one on me. Right now I'm debating ordering total undecs or data only cars but I'd like to know the difference in the two series of undecs.
