Locos and rolling stock
When are reporting marks needed?
I know that cars used on, for example, the Conway Scenic Railroad, do use reporting marks, even thought they stay on home rails--though the line is connected to the national rail system. But would a common carrier (My hypothetical North Central Narrow Gauge in the 1990's) that can't interchange with other railroads need them? Its cars and locomotives can't interact with other lines except on the small portion of dual gauge tracks in a couple of towns--including the great locomotive works near Wiscasett.

Touch up colors for Santa Fe diesels?
I'm looking for paint recommendations to match an HO Proto 2000 GP60 and an Athearn CF7, both in Santa Fe blue and yellow. The blues on the two models look quite different to my eyes, but the yellows seem very close. When I finish adding details they'll both be weathered, so touch-up paint doesn't have to be an absolutely perfect match, but closer is better. Thanks for any help.

Hornby 8f driver diameter?
I sure hope this is a simple question. Does anyone have a Hornby 8f which they could measure the drivers on? I'm looking at a photo, and they look smaller than many US made models. I'm hoping that's not just the difference between HO and OO. I'm looking for 16.0-16.5 mm ideally.
While I'm at it, if anyone can suggest another common UK or European model with drivers that diameter, I'd be happy to hear about it!
Does any one have a set of horns for an N Scale GP-15?
I have been repainting my loco roster in my home railroad colours and in the process, stupidly, took the horns of the roof of both of them. Now I have finished painting them up, I find that I can only locate one set of horns. These are Atlas GP-15 typically Atlas #1590. If any one knows where i can get a replacement set, I would be grateful for the information. If anyone has one spare, I would happily pay for the postage to the UK.
Thanks in advance.

Shiny caboose 'weathering' help
Finishing a scratch-built caboose by building a styrene body onto an old Tyco chasis, just for fun... that and the wife said I had to have a caboose. Why buy, repaint and re-decal one when I can QUOTE 'save money' buy scratch-building it myself? hehehe..My layout is a short line passenger run, one could even say it is mostly for vacationers going to the beach but there's some mail and commuters, so the caboose at least is in gloss finish- they keep it clean for the company image.
Removing coal loads from Atlas N Scale Hoppers
I am just getting going on my N Scale layout and have taken delivery of some Atlas Trainman 90 Ton Hopper cars. I intend to use these to feed coal out to an off layout coal fired power station. This will involve a couple of trainload every day going off the layout loaded with coal and coming back on empty. I was hoping to achieve this using a magnet to lift them out. However, the coal load in the Atlas hoppers is fixed in place.
I know that I could remove them and ignore any damage. I would then have to make my own coal inserts
Question on pantographs and trolley poles
Could trolley pole equipped and pantograph equipped electric traction operate on the same lines? And did they anywhere? I don't know if there's differences in the wire set-up.
HO Scale Motive Power question
Have been out of HO scale for some time now and looking to get back in. With finances the way they are I am going to limit myself to one or two engines since I will be working a 2 x 16 switching layout. Here is the rub, I want to be able to switch out a few buildings, the motive power, and some of the rolling stock to a different railroad and or era for different operating sessions. I am partial to GP-9's and can think of six different railroads I want to model but I certainly don't want to have twelve engines if I go with pairs.
