Missouri Pacific Eagle Merchandise Service and NOT&M boxcars
Here's a couple of Mopac boxcars I finished last year. Both are resin kits that I started over 20 years ago and the building got stalled. The NOT&M boxcar began life as a Dennis Storzek SOO Line boxcar with a 5' door. Martin Lofton, of Sunshine Models, wrote an article in RMC on how to convert the Soo Line kit into a NOT&M boxcar.
Passenger car intereiors question/Palce Car Company
I have an assortment of the MCD Roundhouse Palace cars, sitting in boxes waiting to be built. I have seen the Palace Car Company website, and am considering getting one of their interior kits--any thoughts on the quality of them? The cars are big enough, and the windows are big enough, that they NEED interiors.
Interesting load (sorry, no pics)
While I was on the highway, I saw a tractor-trailer with a backhoe. Ordinary--until I saw that the backhoe was shiny, and so was the tractor and trailer. The only weathering was a SLIGHT bit of dirt on the tracks, and the boards on the trailer were a bit old. This seemed unusual, and then I noticed other details. There were stickers on the windshield of the backhoe, clear plastic over the operator's seat, and no scoop on the unit. The tractor-trailer was marked for a transportation service, not a construction company.
ACL M-5 in HO scale, more to follow
I've been hard at work on yet another 3D printed model for Shapeways. This time, it's an Atlantic Coast Line M-5 caboose. For some reason, this one is close to getting the better of my poor computer, and I'm looking at upgrading soon. Anyway, here's the model:
Sergent couplers - operating sessions
I have searched through the past posts and was hoping to pose a question that has been answered to some degree, but not fully.
I would like to hear from people out there that have examples of operating sessions exclusive using Sergent couplers. I am thinking multiple operators (vs a single person) and perhaps larger layouts (vs smaller switching layouts). I'm most interested in hearing about HO scale. Comments, complaints, observations, things that could be done better, lessons learned, etc.
Motor chatter-solution?
Hi! I just updated my Athern SW7 (blue box) with a TCS decoder. The switcher runs smoothly running forward, but in reverse there is significant low speed motor chatter and vibration. The chatter and vibration are in direct relation to motor speed. What did I do wrong? Any thoughts on a fix?
Thanks, CNJ Mike
CP Rail GP9u
Here are some pictures of my almost completed CP Rail GP9u locomotives. These are Kaslo kits with Proto 2000 frames. I have added Miniature by Eric bells, horns, and MU stands. 8218 has Kaslo pilots and both units have A-line windshield wipers. I drilled the fans out of both units and added Canon and Co fans. The paint is Model Master and True Line Trains with Micro Scale decals. 8218 still needs LED's and sound installed.
Railroad picture archives down?
Is anyone else having issue connecting to rrpicturearchives.net ? Says server refused connection. Of course this happens when I want to decal my CSX ballast hoppers
Hand brake dimensions?
Can somebody point me toward some accurate dimensions for freight car handbrakes? I am trying to draw some (both wheel and gear box), and I'm not finding a lot of information beyond the fact that the wheel is 22" diameter.
I suppose I could go out and measure some, but if the information can be had from the comfort and safety of the house, I'd much rather do that!
I am disappointed, but maybe an easy fix.
I bought two Logging engines, a Spectrum 3 truck Shay and a Rivarossi HO Scale Two Truck Heisler.
the layout is under construction has a 24" radius 4% incline/up hill to the mountain top.
Problem: the Shay makes it half way up and wheel slip no cars in tow. The Heisler makes it 3/4 of the way wheel slip. Both DCC and both right out of the box, new.
Open to suggestions other than towing them to the top with Diesel. I have several GE 70 ton switchers that make it with out effort.
