Locos and rolling stock
LifeLike P2000 GP7
Recently I tried to put into service a Lifelike P2000 GP7 which I bought about 20 years ago. It did not run although the motor hummed. On youtube I found a very good 10 min video dealing with non working Lifelike GP7s I followed what the author had to say and the locomotive now runs. However, it does make a loud thumping sound. I have checked the axles and they are not split.
Can somebody point me in the right direction ?
How long is a Trinity 31,000-gallon DOT-111 crude-oil tank car?
A quick Google search didn't readily yield any relevant results. About how long in feet is a modern 31,000-gallon, crude-oil tank car prototype? I recently bought a bunch of Atlas' new TrinityRail 31K crude-oil tank cars in N-scale. The Atlas cars are pretty neat, complete with BLMA trucks (with blue hubs), 36" BLMA metal wheel-sets, and body-mounted, brown BLMA couplers (how are these different from the BLMA models?). Thanks!
Bachmann driving rod cranks
Folks,
I made the mistake of putting a decoder in an old Bachmann for a friend. That split frame is probably the biggest PIA someone could have designed.
Okay rant over...
Now, what tool is best for loosening the driver crank pins? I can not find my little wrench I use for my Rivarossi engines, so I do not know if it will work or not. I would have asked this on the Bachmann forums, but most of the people on there seem very new to model railroading and are probably not removing the drivers.
Thanks,
Kirk
Firecat Designs 3D Printed NSH90V Flat Car
Just thought I would post a photo of my recently completed National Steel Car NSH90V 89' flat car. The shell is 3D printed from Firecat Designs. It sits on a Walthers chassis, and the following have been added. Plano coupler cut bars, grab irons with bolt castings, underslung train line hoses, full brake gear, Kadee 100 ton trucks, Grandt Line stake pockets, cribbing with scratchbuilt brackets, home made decals, microscale TTX logo, and a BLMA models pipe load. Enjoy and have a great day.

Are these "diamonds" or "junk" ???
I purchased another collection, and I find myself with some items that are out of my "wheelhouse" so I need some help in finding the value of these items. This collection came from the family of the late Hal Carsten's so it could be from as far back as the 1950s.
Most (if not all of them) are marked "Marklin". They are mostly comprised of metal.
Craftsman Kit (Oscar) Sanding Sealer for wood
So, my Oscar arrived. I remember reading about the construction of Walthers passenger cars, particularly the shaping of the ends of the roof and using sanding sealer before painting the roof to get rid of wood grain. In the (very long) past I used model airplane dope to accomplish this. That is long gone for me so I am wondering what could be used now.
My search of the internet has revealed Minwax Sanding Sealer and Zinsser primer/sealer. The Minwax stuff is soap and water cleanup but the Zinsser stuff states it is a white tinted shellac.
Some photos of my HOn3 equipment
Thought I would post a few photos of HOn3 rolling stock I have built over the years...
This locomotive was built from one of those MDC 3 in 1 kits, based on a Mexican prototype.
And this hopper was built from scale lumber and illustration board.
Micro Trains N scale SW1500 Loco DCC ready?
An online store here in Canada has this switcher on sale, but does not state if it`s DCC ready.I did some searching on the net and nothing turned up(except EBay listings with little useful info)
I read it is a Lifelike re-pop with different internals...but not sure.
I would like to buy this locomotive ,but am hesitant after my LifeLike SW9-1200 purchase(not DCC ready) made before knowing about DC/DCC compatibility.
I tried to contact the vendor, but nothing.
Thankyou for any insight.
