Arduino Fire: Flicker and Glow VS On/Off Flash
Dear MRHers,
Am barrelling thru a layout speed-build right now, (details irrelevant to this post),
and need a pair of fire fx. Perfect opportunity to try a quick Arduino deployment.
Anyway, the Arduino is in and flickering away, and honestly, I'm disappointed...
The concept is cool, and the price is decent compared to commercial options,
but compared to the Audio-fire circuits I'm used to using, this looks more like lightening than fire....
HO Scale Gravel
I'm using unsanded grout for large gravel areas on my layout but I'm not satisified with the appearance. It looks good for the gravel on the shoulder of a road but on a large area like a gravel parking lot (a lot of them around here) or lumber yard or other industry, it just doesn't look right to me. I've applied it like standard ground cover and I've sifted it on the layout and misted it with water and let the cement in it hold it in place. In a large area it looks more like dirty snow then a gravel parking lot.

N scale tires from Lego blocks.
Hello
I accidentally found this while I was scratch building a bridge.
Cut heads from Lego blocks.
Backside of head has a dip already.
Drill a hole. File the outer edge of the head.

plastic durability
So,
I found these VERY old high voltage transmission towers at a train show recently. The price was right but the plastic was VERY brittle. As you can see, I have been busy replacing plastic. I have seen this brittle plastic before on one of those old AHM rolling lift bridges. Supposedly, this is caused by some kind of leaching process that is created when the plastic is not primed and painted. I do not know if this is true or not.

Can you help with my University Course - Android/iOS Scale Conversion App?
Hi there. It's me again looking for help with my Open University course. This time it is part of the course that I am doing called - "Web, Cloud and Mobile Technologies"! As part of my last assignment (the mobile part - or Cell phone to the US), I have to propose a new app. The idea is that I compare it to other apps that do a similar thing and say where mine has differing functionality. I don't have to create the app, just write about the functions and show some "wire frames".
Modern Buildings
If you like to model in today's modern, don't know if anyone has been http://www.summit-customcuts.com, but they have some of today's modern buildings. I came across it last night and the buildings can be a bit pricey, but I thought they had some nice detail.
Just thought I would share it.
Kitbash Atlas Lumber Yard
After a couple of moves and layout re-builds, I still have one un-finished kitbash that remains on the back burner. In the modeling press prior to 1990, there was an article that showed how to use 3 Atlas HO scale lumber yard kitss to build a complex with 2 lumber yards on one side of the tracks and one on the other with a millwork room spanning over the tracks. It may have been an Art Curren project but I can't seem to find the article. I am looking to finally finish this project adding the roof top details and fencing etc.

Walthers EMD 567
So, I guess it is just wishful thinking, but just in case Walther's product developers ever read this site...
I put together my first EMD 567 kit and I really like it !
Since I am building a large diesel shop, I need models of a 645, a 710 a GE FDL of several types and various parts pieces, dollys small cranes and other junk needed to conduct business at a diesel shop. Maybe a detailed frame or partially assembled diesel with loco details
The details... the details...
Trying to figure out dimensions
I am going to order a flexible random stone wall from Chooch Enterprises Inc, but I'm having difficulty in determining the approximate size of the stones in the base of the water tower I want to model.
I'm guessing the average height of the stones in the the base are about two to three ties high? - about 16 to 24 inches?
