Planning city scenes on slopes/hillsides

Happy holidays to all.  I'm looking for a good tutorial, suggestions, pointers, etc. about planning and installing city scenes on slopes/hillsides.  I'd like to include buildings, stores, streets and sidewalks that are on hillsides as part of some of the urban located elements of my layout.  I've found lots of articles, videos, articles, etc.

Small towns at an angle

Wondering if any of you have a town on your layout thats situated at an angle to the benchwork. I have always built my towns running parallel to the benchwork and wanted to try something different. Maybe a main street running at 45 degrees or something similar. If anyone has such a town would you mind sharing some pictures or ideas on how best to construct it.

Tis the season to make a little diorama

I made this little winter scene from a piece salvaged from a previous layout. It is a derelict Irving gas station. I just can't bring myself to get rid of the structures from a previous layout that I have no use for on my new layout. I think the third shot best depicts ambient light coming from a street lamp.

Work in progress - paving the streets

Work in progress - paving the streets. I'm taking a break from laying track.

1. Street segments are not glued down so the edges are raised.
2. Definitely need to spray some Dullcote on those streets! You can't see the reflections when standing there but down low, you sure can!
3. This shot is at f13 and while the front figures are in focus, the rear are not. After I try to dull down the road I'll reshoot at f22.

Curved bridge

Hi, has anybody built a curved bridge? I have a 3 turn helix that I have built. At the top level of the helix which is also a double track mainline with a double mainline running underneath on the lowest level to enter the helix. I want to have a curved bridge about 24" radius span the tracks below.Should I scratchbuild a deck girder bridge and lay flex track or use a micro enginnering kit to acheive the same result.

Thank you, Chuck

Rubber Grade Crossings

Folks,

I'm wondering if anyone knows when rubber grade crossings came into prominence?  I model the mid-70's and am not sure if they were in use then.  BLMA makes them in styrene, and they say they were in use in the 80's and on.

Also, same question about the concrete panels that are now is use for grade crossings.  I'm assuming they came along later than the rubber ones?

Thanks,

Al Carter

"Mini blog" construction of Exeter Cold Storage

I'm working on a new structure and I figured I'd park my photos and ramblings here rather than photobomb other threads with pictures of styrene, paper, wood and assorted glues. Next post will show the construction as it sits today and future posts will show some of the process used to get where I'm going. This particular building has been based on observations and photos I have taken of the San Joaquin Valley Railroad, headquartered in Exeter California. When I was young and followed it around it was called the Visalia Electric and has a very interesting history.

PVA and Static grass -- not conductive

Most sites recommend using full strength PVA for static grass.  I read on a UK site that it is not conductive.  I laid out a line of PVA about 6 inches long and I could not get conductivity along it.  Has anyone else done this test.  If PVA does not conduct a charge, what should we use?

Container Crane, scaleOO 1/76, almost HO

I was looking thru the internet for container cranes and found this rather interesting one. Its described as a Bachmann (European one I believe), 44-0009 Container Terminal Crane by Bachmann in OO scale. Pretty neat.
