Mil-Scale Models

I have the model Mil-Scale Coal Yard Bunker/ Jacobs Coal Co. S-90 in HO.

A photo of the completed model is not available and would help in building said model. I checked Google but no assembled pictures came up. Anyone have a photo of the assembled model?

Found sand piles

I was looking at a section of the garden when I noticed that these cheap clay pot stands or feet (see FIG 1) hadn't quite made it though the winter freeze/thaw cycles.  Several had split or separated internally giving rise to finely grained, shapes resembling sand piles (FIG 2, 3).

Modeling Techniques-Wood Structures

I have scratched-built simple structures using scribed wood or clapboard wood sheets.  When using the scribed wood, I have pre-painted and weathered the wood prior to cutting and assembling the structure.  I have used strip wood to reinforce/brace the corners and critical junctures.  However, I have still experienced warping of the wood within the face of the structure.  I would like to scratch-build a structure that has been taken from a historical photograph and scaled based on the height of the men standing next to the structure.

Wooden Grain elevator

Hi all

I'm looking at laser cutting a wooden grain elevator to fit my Northern Montana Milwaukee road layout. My issue is do i get 'flat' wooden siding engraved in to the pieces, or do i use the laser cutting and laminate it with clapboard siding. I'd like to go with engraving as its quicker, easier and maybe cheaper.

Modeling Springtime

I'm about to the point where I can begin working on scenery on my layout.  They layout is set in northern Vermont (St. Johnsbury to

I'm hoping someone can give me some pointers for modeling the Spring season - that time of year when the leaves are just coming out but the trees are still semi see-through.

Any suggestions?

Appreciate the free downloadable this month - Mar 2016

I quite like the "post Floquil" paint article and the free download paint chart, matching new brands of paint colour with old Floquil colours, well done.  If you don't know what I'm talking about read the article, well done.

Depicting buildings on a painted backscene.

Having watched the Trainmasters TV feature on painting backscenes with Chris Lyon, I decided to paint the back boards on my N scale modules.  The modules depict a small town in Michigan.  After some practice I have mastered painting the trees to my satisfaction and I don't need large hills in southern Michigan.  However, I do need buildings to show that the town is larger than the one foot width of the module.

Kwik-E-Mart

Hi guys,

I had this epiphany to build the Kwik-E-Mart from The Simpsons in 3D, in N scale. My tiny plastic guys need to get their donuts and magazines from somewhere don't they?

I had it 3D printed and made the file available for printing via Shapeways (as with most of my 3D designed stuff). I used a piece of plastic from an anti-static bag for the windows. I'll put one of my aircon units up on the roof with some vents.
