Weathering Wood correctly

Hi all.

I have been building a new layout in H0, in a Showcase.

I am building and weathering a station for the layout (it's European), and I have added a warehouse to the main buidling. I have used a lot of the techniques I've learnt building tank cars in 1/35.

The buidling has a wooden deck, but I don't like my work when it reaches the wood work. So, what kind of weathering could I do to this deck? Airbrush? Brush? Paints? Pigments? Oil paints?

Photo interpretation basics for scratch building

Here are some photo interpretation basics for converting a photo into usable dimensions for scratch building. This technique was used when I was working in Naval Intelligence and interpreting U-2 aerial photography of Cuban missile sites. Stereoscopic imagery was normally used, but for our use, single photos are sufficient.

Grand Model Russia

Most of us here have heard of Miniature Wonderland in Hamburg, Germany.... well, there is something very similar in Russia as well:

Pretty darn impressive.

How to scratchbuild when all you have is pictures & no dimensions?

Guys & Gals -

Like the subject line says:  How does a person scratch build a structure when all they have is pictures of the building?  My structure is the old D&RGW (now UP) North Yard tower in Denver, CO and I am in Paris, TN.

My pictures do not have anyone standing near so I can not estimate based upon a person's normal size. I have pictures of all four sides of the building so I know what it looks like but am not an architect and I don't know the dimensions of the doors or windows.

Looking for best product for Moss in HO Scale

For the Stone Arch Bridge I am scratchbuilding, I have several areas that have "gaps" that when I try to fill with plaster has ruined the stonework detail.  I am hoping to cover this with "moss" and/or other vines/vegetation  that would cover such a bridge in western Pennsylvania.

Tips on how best to apply the material would also be helpful as well.

Thanks.

Korber Models problem

I'm working on preparing an O-scale Korber Models kit.  First I stripped the excessively heavy paint so I could repaint to a lighter color, white.  When I repainted with a primer, I found lots of little plastic bubbles that were relatively easy to carve off.

But in two of the long walls, there must be thousands of small to medium size "divots." Some I could fill with CA glue, but the majority cannot be filled that way, at least in my lifetime.  Fortunately, it will be a background building.

Making a mirror mold?

I have a City Classic's gas station that I'd like to make a mirror mold of it.

For example, I want the 2 garage doors on the right hand side, not the left.

Is this possible to do?

ideas for ship modeling ???

Gang,

Well, I did it again... I found a Walthers car float and float bridge for a price that was too good to be true. Well, now I have to model a harbor. Actually, I always wanted a harbor scene to display my rolling lift bridge, so this latest acquisition just gets me a little closer.

Shouldn't a harbor scene have a ship or two in port? I know, a real ship scaled down could be huge, but I have seen some convincing models that are not more than 2-3 feet long, even container carrying ships. I could even model one side of the ship or whatever.
