Arizona Rock & Mineral ballast order delays?

Has anyone placed an order with Arizona Rock & Mineral recently?  Any feedback on actual response times?  I know their site warns about 21 day processing due to weather issues there, so I expected it to be slow.  However, we're a bit past that now and my calls are going to a voice mailbox that's full.

Track laying,..electrical question

I'm a little confused with this observation of mine. I've been laying lots of code 100 atlas track lately,...and attaching the multiple feeders wires to the bus wires. The area I have in question is down one side of the layout under my steel mill and freight yard tracks.  Its all going to be a single power district with a single bus wire feeding it.

That single bus wire stretches the length of side of the layout and has open ends (no connections at this time on either end).

Anyone have problems with the new Atlas Mark V turnouts?

Our RR club is in the process of building some new modules with a mixture of Atlas code 100 Mark IV and Mark V turnouts. We had to use a mixture because we could not find enough of either one. We have 8 of the #6 Mark Vs and so far the points have fallen out of two of them and we have not even put them into operation. When we stand the modules on end to move them, the pivoting end of the point rail falls out of the turnout. Atlas says to return them but we did not discover the problem until they were mounted on the modules.

Newbie DCC question

I am a newbie to DCC. When I place some of my Bachmann DCC engines of the programming track, the engine immediately starts to make sound and will not accept programming command. Other of my Bachmann engines do not make a sound. These are easily programmable. 

I suspect that the non-programable engines are stuck in some type of loop that prevents programming and yet allows a constant sound production. 

Is there a troubleshoot for this frustrating problem.

Atlas N scale Code 55 five #5 turnouts

Purchased some Atlas C55 N scale #5 turnouts. 

 

Noticed the point rails look rough, anybody else have any issues with the latest run? 

I did a rolling test with some freight cars to see if they derail, maybe they will be fine. 

 

 

 

Please do not reply with how I need to build my own turnouts, please do not reply this is why I should be in G scale. Please do not reply switch to Kato uni track.

How to finetune servo operation for turnout control?

I'm a luddite who is giving servos a try for operating turnouts.  I am trying to complete Dr Geoff's servo projects from the Dec 2016 MRH.  The article does not mention how to finetune servo position.  I understand that the "IDE sketch" specifies the beginning and ending point for each servo.  What is the process to finetune?  My guess is a sequential approximation (SA) for each start and end position.  In other words, change the values, reflash the sketch to the Uno and operate, rinse and repeat until servo and turnout are correctly alig

Mind the gap

When attaching two pieces of flex track that were to some extent curved, after trimming to fit invariably one end of the two rails is slightly shorter than the other.  What happens is that in the track joiners one rail in the first track fits tightly against the adjoining rail in the second track, while there is a gap between the other two rails when joined together.

What do you do to fill this gap?  Melt solder in between the rails and file smooth?

Strange Peco Turnout

Recently posted turnout photo on another forum,....

that turnout photo you posted,...where did you get it, or identify it??

It does not appear to have the same contact tabs as many of the older ones?

 

And,  is this some sort of new tab,.....  sticking off the end of that point rail?,   ....or perhaps some sort of optical illusion?
