The Search for the Most Prototypical Track

After an exhaustive search. One that took me through Atlas, Peco, Micro Engineering, Fast Tracks, Proto87 Stores and so on I finally found some really prototypical track. I'll have to hand lay it, as all the finest tracks are.

Experience with Iowa Scaled Engineering servos for switch points

I have installed some servo motors and control electronics purchased from Iowa Scaled Engineering for throwing the switch points.  The experience has been very positive, and I cannot say enough about the great support that these guys provide for their products.  They make it clear that the customer comes first.  Here is a summary of my experience:

Why not common rail

Just finished reading an article from a 2012 MR by Mike Polsgrove on DC to DCC conversion.  In the article he says he was never a fan of common rail in DC but even more so in DCC.  He then goes on to specify what circumstances common rail can be a problem - multiple boosters and auto reversing module.  He says with multiple boosters the situation in which they are out of phase could boost the volts causing problems.

Peco turnout motors

Maybe there's some ideas out there that you guys can help me out with. I bought a few Peco turnout motors with the extended drive pin, (PL-10E). Thinking that it would be long enough to mount underneath my bench work. With a mounting plate installed on a motor, the drive pin is only about an inch long. Over all with plywood, Styrofoam, cork road bed, and turnouts, (all installed), I need about an inch and three quarters. (1-3/4"). Can the drive pins be changed or added to? What else could be done? Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you.

Anyone ever use a sound cam with a Bachmann HO shay? With the Bachmann climax?

Looking for recommendations, hints, warnings, etc. about using a cam to get a WOW decoder to support the shay's 3 cylinders; also not sure if it's worth the effort for the gearing that complicates the relationship between cylinder vs. wheel rotation ratios of a climax.

Reinventing the Wheel: Locomotive Controller ...

Right ... between awaiting materials, tools, and sunshine (heh); I have too much time to "think" about my current project.  http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/18011

In the back of my mind, I have been very keen on implementing something like the RailDriver as a control system for my locomotive; similar to what Damin Keenan did with his.  http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/15624

Digitrax with Bachmann

I have a 4x6 ho scale layout and I have read a forum that had explained wiring up the digitrax controller to the E-Z track. I am pondering to buy the super-chief set, the club layout that I enjoy visiting uses this system. Can someone help me with this issue. I am using the Bachmann E-Z Command Control System and thinking of upgrading to something a little more advanced, since I might purchase some Broadway Limited Imports locos. I need a pretty detailed procedure on how to do this task. Thanks in advance.

ACK!!! Did I just fry my first decoder?

I have a NCE PowerCab, and I just installed a TCS CN-GP decoder into my N Scale Kato built Atlas GP35. As soon as power hits the rails, this loco takes off in high gear in forward, without being told to do so. Did I fry my decoder or is there a CV that I can edit?

Thanks,

John
