RRampMeter Surprise

Have just installed a RRampMeter on the HO layout.  On cutting the alligator clips to install permanently I was surprised at how light the wiring is, certainly not the 12-14 gauge recommended for the bus. Mind you, same applies for the wiring on the PSX breakers. Next surprise was the meter readings. Haven't got it much above 2 amps yet, even with four sound and several non sound locomotives running. This supply is also feeding a N layout so doesn't seem to be any need for a booster yet.

HO Scale Atlas Turntable Modification Troubles

Hi all,

I have, for the past several weeks, been in the process of trying add a longer bridge and pit to an Atlas turntable. I have been having problems with the pit and bridge. I messed up the cutting of the pit and it is not exactly circular and the central pivot that the bridge rotates on is not exactly centered, so the bridge is liable to bind as it rotates. I have done my best to fill in the pit to get it circular, but the bridge is still an issue.

DCC Wireless Controllers

Our American Modular Group in Dunedin, New Zealand has an American HO layout called Route 66.

It is modular/sectional comprising of four corner units with a single 1200 mm [47.24395 inch] bridge section between making it 3.5 metres [11.5 feet] wide.

There are five [5] straight units at 1200 mm comprising of each side, making the layout a total length of 9 metres [29.5 feet] long.

Arduino Controlled Turntables.

Time to turn my research to controlling the two turntables on my layout.

One question first. Will a DCC reversing module be needed on a turntable?

Wiring DCC vs. DC for One Train Operation

Which is simpler to wire for one train operation? DC or DCC?

Is this a DCC decoder or something else that predates DCC?

I acquired two HO locos (streamliners with dummies attached) from a garage sale for cheap.  Both run on my standard DC layout - but in reverse only.  Can't get them to run forwards even by switching track polarity.  Found these circuit boards inside both.  Looks like an early form of DCC but the blue trimmer device is making me question this.

Any idea what these are?

6 Axle Loco vs. 4 Axle Loco Power Pickup

Does a 6 axle Diesel have any advantage over a 4 axle Diesel with electrical power pickup?

Dose it matter if it is DC or DCC? (Would the results be different between DC and DCC?)

IDC and/or Similar

Good morning.

I likely have missed it despite my spending all too many hours on Amazon and MRH searching for the desired T- Tap connectors.

While 3M and Micro Mark (3 M products) do offer T Tap IDCs in the desired wire format, I have not found any IDCs of the same size in multiple colors.  To clarify, I would like to follow tradition and use Black and Red for wiring but I have not been successful in this regard.  I would accept other colors provided they are in the same wire size, i.e., Red/Blue; Yellow/Green, etc.

Have I missed them?

DCC and the Bachmann 3-truck Shay

I have acquired a Bachmann 80-ton 3-truck Shay. I will be putting a simple SoundTraxx MC1 non-sound decoder in it - it has an 8-pin socket.

I note from the exploded parts diagram that there is a cab light in the locomotive (or maybe, hopefully, it's a firebox light). What I haven't found is what function/aux it is connected to. I could do the trial and error method, but if anyone already knows?
