Track and electrical/DCC
instaling a decoder in a Atlas N scale two truck Shay
Hi Guys,

Power Needs
My wife and I measured up the unfinished area of our basement this week and are working on plans to put wiring, lights, etc. in there so there is a spot for the kids to play, her to set up her sewing, a place to put the drums/guitars, a spot for the layout and a storage area. I'm not sure how the builder managed to get away with it, but there was not a single electrical plugin in the entire area (about 30' x 24'), but they did sheet the room in with drywall.
Newbie asking about JMRI
Still in the Dream phase of a garden RR and I thought that battery power was the way to go. Now that I have seen some of the JMRI / DCC discussions...I may be crossing back over the bridge to track power... Hoping to get a few answers...
Will my AMD 1Ghz processor with 100mhz fsb & 2Gb memory be enough to run JMRI?
Is JRMI & DCC stickly a track power application? Can I consider battery power?
Anyone out there that wants to give me a Garden RR? (deosn't hurt to ask!)
Kevin :)

were do you put the speaker
I have about 25 SD40-2 athaern engine .These are the old B/B type and I would love to put sound decoders in them .But were and what size .I know putting sound in a B/B is crazy but I just love these engines . I look inside and thought maybe in the cab But what size and shape would a preson use.

make a speed table
I'm trying to get two engine to run together I don't have decoder pro .Is there a easy way to get them to run together I would like to use a speed table I tryed the 3 cv way without much seccess. help please.

Track Bus & Inductive Current
I am almost ready to start wiring the first section of my layout. I have plenty of three conductor #14guage wire to use for track buses, but I'm hesitant to start because I'm afraid I might have problems with inductive current scrambling my signal if I convert to DCC in the future. Thanks in advance!

Cleaning up oil spill
I have had an accident in my trainroom. An oilfilled radiator heater suddenly started to leak seriously. Some of the warm oil evaporated and fell down on my Zephyr and UT4s, and on some of my rolling stock.
I need some advice on how to clean up. I have wiped off most of the oil with some towels, but there still is a "oilskin" left.
I guess I can clean up the rolling stock washing them with soap and warm water.
But what with the DCC-stuff? I am afraid of using water as water easily would seep into the box and make shorts.
newbie wiring question
Hi
I am new to the hobby and especially DCC.
This im my first layout and I attached a pdf of the Baltimore, Albany & Hartford layout I am building.
I have joined the outer track so that I have an inner and outer loop.

Keeping the buses separate
Howdy, fellow forum foamers!
I've got enough benchwork up now to run some wire for my NCE PH Pro (5 amp version). The question I have involves the power and throttle buses. In the manual NCE says to keep them apart but does not say how far apart they should be. I don't have radio so the throttle bus will run right along the front of the benchwork. If I keep the power bus about a foot or so away is that sufficient, or should I go for more?
Thanks in advance to all who are so helpful.
HO track size/shape variation by manufacturer for same rail guage?
As I plan my future basement layout, I would like to standardize to a single manufacturer of HO track components (flex track, crossings, turnouts) for consistency and compatibility. I find that hard to do. Some factors which make that difficult are (1) product availability, (2) significant price variations among components, (3) variety of styles of turnouts/crossings, etc. needed are not offered by each brand, and (4) scale/size/shape variations between the manufacturers. I realize there will need to be compromises.
