Programming a SoundTraxx Tsunami decoder with an unknown address
I posted on the MRH forum about putting a decoder in a Bachmann GP30. The MRH community gave several helpful responses.
As you may be aware, I purchased a Tsunami decoder. All was good - I had the decoder wired to the motor (after
discovering I had the motor wired backwards) and the frame and hooked up my speaker (in an enclosure) and I got sound and the loco ran. No lights yet - I wanted to test things as they were.
DCC Query on My Layout
Please find attached my layout,
I have used Peco Code 75 Electrofrog on the turnouts and I intend to use Tam Valley Depot Frog Juicers and power the points with Switchmasters.
Can someone please advise whether I can use the Switchmasters without the Frog Juicers? or is it advisable to use both?
cheers

Bachmann FA2
Interesting to see that Bachmann has a FA2 A and B with SoundTraxx sound for $103.00, each. This will help those want diesel sound but at an affordable price.

How to plan for hand thrown only and remotely throwing a turnout?
As I begin construction of the actual benchwork (FINALLY!),subroaded, roadbed, and track it occurs to me I have arrived at the point of no return where I need to make a decision. Whether or not to plan for to accommodate both CTC and TT&TO. The reasons I would want to accommodate for both are

Switch Tender Machines - I give up
OK nobody likes a quitter, but I've done just that. After wasting the better part of two afternoons attempting to get a pair of Micro Mark Switch Tender switch machines to throw a crossover, I removed them altogether and admitted defeat. These are the machines at issue: http://www.micromark.com/switch-tender-switch-machine,8394.html .

Any reason to keep Command Station powered 24x7?
Is there any reason that would require a Command Station to be powered 24/7, in particular the NCE Command Stations. IIRC, I know some earlier versions of Command Stations, in particular the one for Digitrax, if you turned the power off, you lost all saved data, including Consisting information. Now I plan on having multiple-unit lash ups that are consisted, and to have to reprogram them every time for an Op-Session would be one pain in the butt.
Locos light but wont move
I can select lights (and they change when the loco direction is changed) but the loco wont move at all, either way.
I have two decoders doing this. One, A DH163D exhibits this behavior in *ANY* loco it is plugged into. (using Athearn RTRs Quick Plug DCC.) So i'm thinking it's bad?
Interesting lighting option for multi deck valances
So I was looking over on Kevin's site seeing what was new on the Washington Northern http://wnrr.net/home.html and I saw he had a new link for MA&G. While there, I saw this interesting lighting technique for multi decks and thought someone here might appreciate it http://magnoliaroute.com/magnolia_route_123.htm
