Track and electrical/DCC

HO Code 83 track assistance needed.

I am modeling HO scale, using Atlas code 83 track. I also have some Walthers code 83 track. I am modeling the prototype junction pictured below. The turnout needs to be #6 or higher The track goes through the turnout and crosses a parallel track on 2.5 inch centers. (See blue circles below.)  I have Atlas Right Track Software and have spent hours trying to make this work. I am not skilled enough to make a custom turnout/crossover.

Would this cause a short?

I'm not exactly sure but wouldnt this piece of rolling stock cause a short with it's solid metal wheelsets?

Shouldn't the axle's be plastic?

Fiber Optics

Hi All,

I am wondering if any of you are knowledgeable about fiber optics. Such things as best light sources,  how to shape the fiber for different  uses---diffused, focused, pinpoint,  things like that. "How to"  meaning---  use a flame, a hot flat bladed screwdriver, etc.  How to work the fiber. Size recommendations. Any information would be useful.

Looking forward to any comments.

12V DC Power Supply

I purchased this 12V DC 4 amp regulated power supply to power all accessories on my layout.  It is listed as a 12V DC unit, however it also states its a: 13.8V DC 4 Amp regulated low ripple filtered.   I dont know too much about electrical, so I'm wondering exactly what this means and if it is safe to use for LED's,  signals&nbsp

turnout frogs versus my small Shay

After a lot of cleaning and gleaming of the track I finally had reliable track work and my 3 truck gear driven locos run all over it without any problems.  I then added a new (to me) PFM United 2-truck Shay to the roster.  The 2-truck Shay was professionally overhauled now has a can motor, flywheel, a stay alive, and a Tsunami decoder and speaker installed.  It runs great until the second truck goes onto any frog on my layout.

Which Contact Size to Use for Anderson Power Pole

For the removable sections of the Interim P&A Layout I am going to use the Anderson PowerPole's and they are NOW available through Mouser Electronics.  My question is what size contacts should I use?

1156 bulbs and reinforced cutoff wheels

After reading posts both pro and con I've decided to go the #1156 bulb route as outlined by Joe F. to protect against shorts on my railroad.  I ordered 20 of the bulbs from Amazon.com (free shipping) and will use my Dremel along with the reinforced cutoff wheels (and safety glasses) to cut the gaps in the rail and then filling them with styrene spacers.  I noticed that Joe has a strap holding the bulbs to the benchwork.  I'll have to review his DVD set I purchased to determine what thos

Please review my wiring diagram

Hi gang,

I am taking next week off work and so I plan to finally get around to laying my track and wiring my layout.  I've attached an image of my wiring diagram and I'd like to get some feedback.  My plan is to eventually run the layout on a DCC control system with no more than two trains at one time.  Having just recently returned to the hobby, I am unclear as to how a layout should be wired to accommodate this.  I believe I've done it properly here, but please let me know if there is a glaring error.
