Benchwork and roadbed
Rollout Section ever attempted?
Hi There
A friend on mine is planning a 4 deck layout in a relativly small space of 17ft x 17ft (5m x 5m). To access the layout, a removable section will be needed. Is there anybody out there, who build a kind of roll-out-section with multiple decks and can tell us something about the "does & don'ts"?
Currently the plan is to use aluminium profiles to build a regid roll-out.section as a kind of trolley...

track, for a disply, roadbed.
looking for ho scale (standard gauge, code? does not rally mater) with built on grade, in 3 foot sections, not flex track.
this is for a display on the wall. thinking maybe have ballast under the track.
was thinking using flex, but making it plumb right on straight, might not work for a display,
maybe, if possible a factory built??
maybe that cut wood road bed, then add ballast?
seen in up to 8 in sections. but need longer, just something i just never looked for before tonight.
any know of a source..is any out there?

Arm rests and Ops
Working on fascia for the layout and noodling on options. In most op sessions I have hosted and been to, I find some operators just feel the need to rest their arm on the edge of the layout. Kinda kills the scenery and such. I have seen some operations oriented layouts affix an armrest of sorts along the edge of the fascia. Works well, and provides a convenience to the crew. But, adding something like that will kill access to car card boxes and sorting surfaces. I also like to put a strip of channel along the edge for operators to sort cards without setti

Glue Atlas Track to Alum Roadbed (plastic to metal)
I'm building my 'connection bridges' between my indoor layout to my exterior helix structure with aluminum channels. I need to glue the atlas track to the aluminum surface of those channels.
I have 2 situations:
a) direct attachment of the atlas plastic ties to the alum surface (no room for any type of roadbed under track)
b) some 'bridges' will allow clearance for a roadbed. I've considered a 1/8 cork, ...but having some doubts about its moisture absorbing possibility?
splines using PVC
I'm planning an around the room (its 11x12) layout and I was looking making splines with 1 1/8 x 1/4 " PVC lattice which are easy to get in 8' lengths. These are very flexible and I was think of using 3 of these with 1" spacers to make a total width of 3 3/4". 1/8 spline, 1" spacer, 1/4" spline, 1" spacer, 1/4" spline. On top of the splines I was thinking of using 2 layers of drywall, for sound deadening, and then perhaps milled Homosote road bed. Has anyone used PVC lattice for splines? I thought Joe had mention
Need some advice on deciding
I have modelers block....I cant get motivated...I have an around the walls Ho scale "new England ish " themed 7x21.
Building The Ozark Sub...
This will be a build thread for my upcoming Ozark Sub layout. The particulars:
* To be contained within a purpose built 16' x 20' (15' x 19' interior) HVAC equipped out building.
* Will utilize three of the four walls w/small peninsula.
* Will be a "partial" dual level: Lower and upper 7-track stage areas, reverse loops for turning trains both levels, and a lower and upper town on the dual level portion, with the ruling grade mountain climb on the single level portion.
* Approximately 150' total main length.

Nolix ideas
You know that weird feeling you get when your wife says, "we never really discussed that.."
My plans were to have a helix in the unfinished part of the basement. Since I like big engines and big cars, I have 42" radius turns. The Helix was going to have 36" radius, which still ends up being quite a structure.

Layout Benchwork Support Question
When it comes to holding up our layouts off the floor, there are 2 main ways to go. Using legs attached to the frame or using brackets attached to the wall.
