Automotive soundproofing for Roadbed
This is my first thread here. If it is not a new idea, oh well. It is new to me, I tried it today, and it seems to work great so I'll share it.
Just getting started building my first layout in over 30 years, and picked up a 24' roll of Woodlands scenic foam roadbed for $14.00 - which is a pretty good deal. That works out to $3.78/ sq. ft.

Expansion/Contraction of Foamcore
What are the expansion/contraction properties of a good foamcore product?
I assume you have lots of experience with that 3A product you use most extensively, Prof Klyzlr??
I am wondering about attaching my track directly to a 3/16" thick foamcore that would cover the entire surface of my 3/4" plywood deck, then using a sharp razor to cut out various shapes under certain structures and scenic areas that it might be desirable to remove as an entity to temporarily work on in a more open environment.

Sectional Layout Scenes that are Removable
At time frame 19:27 in this video Ken Patterson shows a modular section that is removable from the layout...
Ken Patterson ,......He discussed it in one of his "what's neat" videos...
Where would be a good place to find more extensive information on this type construction??

Question on gluing ballast . . .
I'm getting ready to ballast my first ever section of track. I did a search of this forum and found countless excellent discussions of the subject.
However, I didn't learn where to apply the diluted glue. Do you lay a strip between each tie (I assume)? How about the banks of the cork? Does it migrate there, or do you also apply some there.
When pre-wetting with the alcohol/water mix do you apply it with an eye dropper, or do you just spray the overall section?
Thanks for your help.

Helix: cork roadbed or not (H0)?
I'm about to start laying track in my double track helix and was wondering should I be putting cork down as a roadbed, or do I just lay the track directly onto plywood?
I plan to use #4 screws and washers method to secure the track to the sub-roadbed, as seen from Jeff Johnston:
Staging Track Design considerations
So, I'm in the process of designing my new layout (large scale outdoors) and workshop space in the new house, and I've got a design problem, I need help with.

Need suggestions how to build a cake....
So, I'm at the point where I plan to start construction of my multi-level SP Lordsburg Sub. I previously posted the latest version of my trackplan elsewhere on MRH and you can find it here:
Covering EZ-track roadbed to make it look realistic
I am currently building my tracks with EZ-track snappable from Bachmann.
I am focusing on the control aspects.
How can I add realism to this later on, like adding sand, grass, paint, etc.?
Is there difficulty in doing this? Anything that I should be aware of as I build the current roadbed with EZ-track?
Why do people use foam?
When do you consider adding foam to the benchwork?
Can we not work directly on plywood?
Are there some advantages to using foam?
