I am currently building my tracks with EZ-track snappable from Bachmann.

I am focusing on the control aspects.

How can I add realism to this later on, like adding sand, grass, paint, etc.?

Is there difficulty in doing this? Anything that I should be aware of as I build the current roadbed with EZ-track?

Yes, the E-Z track can be improved to look more realistic

The track bed can be painted and / or have ballast glued to it to look more realistic.

Ballast - Grass

Thanks Rick for letting me know about the ballast.

How can I get the grass look on the remaining parts of the bed? 

Is there grass kind of ballast? If there is grass, do we call it ballast or something else?

Go to the Search box in the top right hand corner of this page and type in "static grass." It will provide far more information than I can supply here.
