Benchwork and roadbed
Helix / Storage Tracks
Hello:
Looking at the Columbia Cascade & Western's helix on Page 82 of the current issue I wondered if anyone had ever used a helix to feed a vertical wall shelf of storage tracks? Each turn of the helix could serve a storage track on a shelf. Plus you could see all the cars in each train before your eyes. If you had room for two helixes there would be no backing out of the siding. Since there wouldn't be a yard ladder all the storage track would be the same length. In the photo their helix would serve 7 tracks and only use 4" from the wall.

Has anyone else had issues with Califorinia Roadbed recently?
Has anyone else encountered long delays receiving product from California Roadbed??? I placed my order November 5th, and my credit card was charged November 20th, but I still don't have anything to show for it. I have emailed Richard at least once and spoke with him on the phone right before Christmas. I know that he is having health issues, but it really is bad practice to charge me for the product without shipping it.
Thanks,
Ryan
Loctite PL 300 Foamboard Adhesive in limited supply? Got a response from Loctite.
For the new model railroaders to the site, LOCTITE PL 300 is a great adhesive for joining foam board together. I use it for building up layers of blue foam to create mountains. It will adhere the blue foam to wood too. It is also great for gluing down track to the Woodland Scenics foam roadbed. It dries the same color as the blue foam.
What is the most unobtrusive shelf system to use along walls - upper level
As some of you may have seen I have begun building my bench work for my layout. The peninsulas are going well and now its time to think about the outer walls. I would like a shelf of minimum construction with supports as narrow as possible. Maybe 1 1/2" tall ? The shelves will protrude from the wall about 17" max. I'm trying to achieve as much space as I can between levels.

Best Way To Plane Cork Roadbed
Prey tell, what is the quickest and most efficient way to plane cork roadbed down?
Not so cost effective
Hi Everybody
Tonight I was getting all excited thinking that on Sunday I would go to Home Depot and get the plywood to start my benchwork until I added up the cost.
As I showed in an earlier post I would have liked to make everything freestanding but I have just sat and worked out that it would take almost a full sheet of 3/4" plywood and just over half of a sheet of 1/4" plywood, it's going to add up to about $60.00 per module or 3ft section.
White residue after ballasting
Hi guys,
I have started with the ballasting of my layout after test running for a few weeks.
I have followed a number of instruction videos and read up a fair bit on the various techniques.
Steps:
1/ Put down the ballast and spent hours brushing grain after grain into the right place whilst trying not to breath.
2/ Mist the track from a height to wet it down to break surface tension
3/ Glue it in place with the 50/50 mix of water and PVA glue, using a few drops of dish washing liquid
