covering seams in foam

Question:

I'm doing a shelf layout and have decided to add blue foam as the base. My layout will be done in 4' sections so I can easily move them and change them if needed. I can get a 2'x8' sheet of blue 1/2" foam for $9.00. cutting the foam into 2' sections and butting them together would be easy instead of cutting the 4' section and having 12" of waste left over.

What do you use to hide the seams between the pieces of foam? is there a specific tape used to hide the seam?'

Trestle bents for module legs?

I'm just curious, has anyone tried making trestle bents (or some other railroad themed design, perhaps) for use as legs for a modular layout?  I had this idea the other day, and I think it would look neat, but maybe it's impractical..

N scale turnouts?

I would like to get a few Atlas #7 switches to speed up construction of my layout but they are still out of stock everywhere I've looked.   With the continuing shortage of Atlas switches I'm wondering how the alternatives stack up? Anyone using Micro Engineering code 55 #6 switches and able to give a short review of them?  ......DaveBranum

Curving MDF for my fascia?

Hi guys,

If anyone as a trick for this, I would appreciate it if you could share it.  I heard horror stories of people using water to do it and have the MDF expends because of the water. Is there another way to do this?  My radius would be around 5 to 6 inches.

Thanks for any help,

Chris

Edit:  Sorry for this omission, the MDF is a 1/4" thick.

Grades in Hidden Staging

I plan to run 16 to 22 car trains with 2 six axle locomotives. (Kato)

What is the maximum grade you would consider in hidden staging for a train this size?

staging cassettes

Hi all,  could some one give me a visual or detailed description on how to build and attach a staging cassette.  I am totally new to benchwork and construciton in general.

Thanks,  David

Benchwork Type

Back into the hobby after a very long absence. Thought i was going to build a cookie  cutter layout. Was going to use Atlas sectional track. So headed to the local hobby shop at lunch for a great discussion. Except now i am second guessing.

Do I use a flat table and foam as suggested by the shop?

Stick to my plan and use cookie cutter?

Use all flex and discard the sectional?

What lies beneath...

Hi all,

When I had my layout benchwork built about 14 months back it was done by a good friend of ours who has all the tools like saw tables for the MDF etc.
The benchwork need to be fixed in into a drywall which isn't of the best quality and he managed to get it hanging off the wall pretty stable and level.

To make it dead level from left to right and front to back I use thin wooden shims to get the right effect after which the lift-out sections get screwed to the subframe in a few places to avoid flexing and warping.

Backdrop on curves

hi... I'm using hardboard for my backdrop but i'm facing some problems on the curves...I've a small layout and its takes to much space when beding the hardboard on curves.

is there is a way to have backdrop curves without taking that much space? or i've to be happy with 90 grade corners...

How to build curved modules?

Hello!

I´m building a modular layout in H0 scale. I have space to build a L shaped layout, my first modules are built straight but now it´s time to build a curved module. Want to use a 90 degree curve and 24'' radius. How to build a curved module?
