Walk-around visit - video

Over the years I've posted a number of entries focused on individual projects on the Richlawn Railroad.  The good folks at MRH suggested that I share a little of the concept and history of the layout so I've created a 13 minute long video.  The style is sort of a walk-around visit just like if you came over to my home and I showed you around the layout.  The video is pretty much "produced as shot"; that is, there isn't any editing or background music (just like a real visit!).  I hope you enjoy your visit and thanks for watching!

Some pictures from the IoS

I know it's been a while since my last posting.

First some pictures I made during the last two days.

Here you could see my brandnew Class 37/4 in Transload livery with the Caledonain Sleeper on it's way to Uig

Walled Lake Passenger Station

To All: Another passenger station on the layout is Walled Lake on the upper level. I scratchbuilt the station after the prototype on the GTW RR (now COE Rail) in Walled Lake Michigan. It is not prototype for E. St. Louis, but I could not part with it, as I grew up in that area.

Relay Jct. Passenger Station

To All: This PRR station is next to the National City Stockyards on the lower level of the E. St. Louis Rail Group Layout. I have to put down a road and parking lot for the station. This part of the layout is E. St. Louis Jct. RR territory. The E. St. Louis Jct. RR has no locomotives at present but does have a transfer type caboose. I service their territory with an Alton & Southern RS-3. There are three industries on the E. St.L Jct., National City Stockyards, Anheuser  Busch Brewery, and Granite City Steel. Sorry the photo is out of focus (cheap camera).

Florida Visit

Going to be visiting the Orlando and Melbourne area of Florida in April. Time has been set aside to visit Hobbytown USA in Melbourne and there may even be time for a bit of railfanning. Any  train watching suggestions, or member meets, would be greatly appreciated. Yah never know, I might just get tired of laying around on the sand drinking Corona.

Contact me offline if you would prefer not to answer in the thread.

Progress Report - Millard Lumber

I'm currently working on the Millard Lumber warehouse and loading dock on my IAIS Grimes Line layout.  This represents the very first time I've ever scratchbuilt a structure.

A Note of Thanks

I was just looking up an old post.  I realized (yes, I see it every time I log in, but it just sank in) that MRH has been providing great content to me for 3 years and 30 weeks (my personal "member since"), and for that I just wanted to pass along a note of thanks for all of your hard work.

DCC, tiny 603 LEDs for headlights, and explorations in Mancos CO

Another blog post - this detailing my weekend's efforts in updating a brass steamer to DCC and adding my first 603 LED in the headlight.  And, some discoveries in Mancos CO.

Yet another steam engine thread

On a trip this weekend to visit the wife's relatives in Lancsater, Pa. we stopped at a flea market on the way home in Lewisburg, Pa. While going through all the valuable treasures I came across a vendor that had one brass engine setting on the shelf. I asked the price, $200. I though boy talk about a bargain. This engine is a Key Import Milwaukee 4-6-4. So home it came with me. I'm not a rail fan of the Milwaukee road but I am a fan of cheap brass.

The engine:

DeCamp Interlocking Tower

To All: The second tower is DeCamp Interlocking Tower on the E. St. Louis Jct. Layout. Also scratchbuilt from a photo in a TRRA Historical Society publication.
