2017 Road Trip, Day 3, Stop 3 - The Real IAIS...

July 14, day 3 of our Road Trip.

Third Stop: The IAIS in Colfax IA

This stop is really our supper and hotel stop, but on the way to find food we discovered an IAIS crew tying down their train for the evening.

In light of the heavy IAIS bias on this trip, I thought it was appropriate to stop and get some photos!

Will the real IAIS please stand up...

N scale figures.

I was asked if I would paint a few N scale figures and I have just finished them. The sculpts are not the best, but once on a layout they will look fine I think.

Funaro resin car build of Illinois Traction Hopper

In this blog I hope to document the building of an HO scale Illinois Traction System hopper from a resin Great Northern kit made by Funaro. The following is a builders photo from the collection of M. D. Fortney.

2017 Road Trip, Day 2, - Non train day - Como Park Zoo

July 13, Day 2 of our Road Trip.

Non Train Day: Como Park Zoo

This was intentionally a non train day, since the rest of the trip is going to be TRAIN PACKED. We started the day by visiting the Antique stores in Hopkins near our B&B. After that, it was off to the zoo. If you're ever in Minneapolis-St Paul, the Como Park Zoo is well worth visiting.

After 7 tries at a nice selfie, I gave up...

CY&P #1 joins the roster.

I've had an MDC boxcab laying around for many years.  I was going to re-motor it, but the chassis design was such a bear, I couldn't come up with a plan.  Quite some time ago I ran on to this article on how to use a Bachmann 44-ton chassis to accomplish this:
