A New Beginning, Chapter 3

We are into phase 3 now. Brought home 2- 4x8 sheets of pink 2" extruded foam for use as the subroadbed. Also 10 pieces of 2x4 Masonite or tempered hardboard for the backdrop. 1 gallon of a nice sky blue and 1 gallon of an earth brown.

I strung the bus wires tonight from one end to the other so that's done before I set the foam in place. And before that's done the backdrop has to be painted and mounted on the wall. Retirement sure is fun!????

Interview with Matt Herman and Bob Amsler

Download at: amodelerslife.com

A couple of great interviews with Matt Herman of ESU and the NMRA's legal counsel Bob Amsler.

Recorded on the road at the Chicagoland RPM Meet using the sexy voicenator 500. Actually it’s the zoom H5 with Shurr hand held mics but basically  the same thing.

Lots of interesting information so sit back, put your feet up and try not to panic when you lean over to far.

Enjoy!!!

Closing the train room door

I closed and locked the train room door this afternoon.

But before jumping to respond, that statement is not negative.  On the contrary, it is a very positive development.  Not since I was a teenager at home have I had a dedicated train room.  Over the years, I've made shelf and desk top layouts, challenged myself to construct an N gauge layout inside an IKEA coffee table and built a couple of modules, had several intercontinental moves and the trains have followed me in a shipping container.

Shelfless no more

Howdy all,

Been out of model railroading action for a few months due to a relocation.   Now I'm all moved into new house and itching to get back in the game.  New house has a nice spare room in a gable roof with a long wall perfect to get my shelf layout modules finally up on a wall.  Pics in following posts

OK, so that didn't turn out as planned!

It's been more than a couple of years now since I even thought about model railroading.  After buying my house, and converting the smallest spare bedroom into my modeling work shop, I returned to my first love - R/C airplanes.  Even that though was full of starts and stops for me (though at the moment I'm in the middle of a 1/3.5 scale sailplane with a 15'+ wingspan).  The other spare bedroom is nicely decorated for company/guests... and has become a repository for half-completed R/C airplanes and model rocket kits!

A New Beginning, Chapter 2

Hello again, fellow modelers. Saturday I took a road trip into rural Northern Indiana to pick up the benchwork that was built for me by Benchridge Benchworks and to see Matt's gorgeous layout. This morning, in about 3 hours, I was able to get the entire thing built. And boy is it solid! Very easy to put together. Bolts and T-nuts and and that's all it took.

Summertime at the Bridge to Nowhere

So the Bridge to Nowhere is all fixed up. More trees, shrubs, animals, people, autos, and trains too. A bit of paint around the outside of the diorama, and now I have something to show visitors when they stop by.

Brick Paint Color

I am looking for info on the color that could be used for the cheaper brick that might be used on the sides and back of a brick building.
