Naming my Layout Part II

I've been thinking about all the controversy about the name I chose for my layout. Some were of the that Bay Ridge and New Haven was to unknown for anyone from out side of Brooklyn or possibly even NYC to recognize. So what to do especially given the thought that in the real world railroad names would be important in raising the financining to build or keep operating the line. So here are some posibilities I came up with and some of th4e objections that came to mind against selecting that particular alternative.

Oh, this is scary!!!

I realize (and my wife says it's OK) that because I have the flu and supposed to be quiet, not exert myself, or go outside in the cold (it's in the 50's, up from 38° last night, here in So.Cal.),

that I have been on the MRH site for four hours, plus.

But,   Model Railroading is fun.

It's time for lunch.

Initial Thoughts

This is a bit overwhelming, putting in actual words my ruminations about how to, and what to, build in a model railroad.   So, I'll start by rambling.  I'll figure out what I'm doing later.

When I first started as a kid, I just laid a oval of track on the available plywood, added some sidings and spurs, and some green paint for grass and grey for roads, and ran it.  I had to run it fast, or not at all:  I had a Varney rubber band drive F-unit!

Eastern Mountains Painted on Backdrop

I decided it was time to tackle the next step on my blue backdrop. I took notes and also made a list of paints and brushes I needed to ensure I was up to speed on creating my mountain scenery. So with the list in hand I went to Michael's Arts and Crafts supply store Sunday afternoon and returned home with a mission, about two hours later I had my first layer of mountains chalked in and painted for the west and south sections of the lower deck.

Atlas shows off some new flatcars in the Trainman line

http://forum.atlasrr.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=50577

Cars include the basic flatcar, and both short and tall bulkhead models. The Straight car is 68' internal length and the bulkhead cars are 62' internal length.

Gotta admit, they look pretty good - and if they're Trainman they'll probably come in at under $15.
