10,000 Downloads of MRH!

January 13th, 2009 -
At 1:48 pm Pacific Time today, Model Railroad Hobbyist passed 10,000 downloads!

With the completely free to readers and advertiser-supported business model, these early circulation results bodes well for the future.

Since back issues always remain available for FREE download, the audience for Model Railroad Hobbyist should grow year after year.

D&D Mining & Steel track schematic

I had a few people ask me about a track diagram of my steel mill or a track schematic. At the time I don't have a track diagram but here is a schematic. This schematic will be used when I have operating sessions. I have very simple track a switch controls and don't have the room to build a control panel with track diagrams.  You can go here for a better view of the schematic.

Issue 1 is here!

Issue 1 is here! (And along with it, some growing pains!) - Click to download issue 1. We're delighted to
announce that
Issue 1 of the Model
Railroad Hobbyist magazine is finally available!

Demand has outstripped all expectations and we're experiencing huge server loads. As a result, we've altered our home page to redirect to a download page for issue 1, and throttled our current MRH web site until we can move to a larger server.

To handle the new load, we're moving the MRH web site to a much larger dedicated server the week of January 12th.

While we don't like to see web server issues, growing pains like this bode well for our goal of being the most popular model railroading mediaZine on the planet!

NOTE: During the week of January 12th, expect the MRH web site to be intermittent as we move to a new, larger dedicated host!

I was at my local Hobby Lobby a week ago looking for Model Rocket engines when I saw their Train Set and accessories section.  I got very interested and started searching online for all the information I could. So now I am in the begining phase of deciding which Train Set to get. I need your opinion.

PS: Thanks in advance and I am looking foward to downloading the first  Premier Issue of the magazine.

Donner Summit Layout Design

I have started work on a new layout which is based on the Donner Summit crossing of the Southern Pacific between Roseville and Reno.    The layout is going to be a helper district with tains arriving from staging that need a helper added to get over the hill.  The layout was designed around some of my favorite scenes on the prototype - the town of Colfax, Cape Horn, the Yuba Gap and the summit tunnels.  A big aspect of the railroad is defienitely going to be the railfanning aspect and I also like to take photos, so great scenery is a priority of mine.  To add o
