Family Vacation & Rail Fanning Too!

Last year I donated a dollar a day to the local PBS television station WUNC-TV here in the Raleigh/Durham area and as a part of the drive I got some free gifts from the Scenic Railroads television show as well as 4 free tickets to ride on the excursion train at the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad (GSMRR) in Bryson City, NC. So in September we planned a trip to the Smoky's for the Thanksgiving Holidays. We arrived at the GSMRR Friday morning around 8:45am in preparation for our 10:30am departure.

Benchwork Pictures

In continuation of my earlier posts, I thought I'd post my pictures of the benchwork for my layout: the Canadian Pacific Kamloops Division Point.

I am modeling in N-scale within a 10x10' room.

I have also added a workbench to one wall for making switches and doing other tasks.

Scenery Continues..

I have continued work on my scenery. The masking tape has been applied over the cardboard webbing and plaster has been applied over a small portion.

A flight over Westport Terminal RR tracks, here two pictures from Third Street Industrial District. With both pictures you see the segment border.

I've placed my camera at the ceiling, simple. Standing on a small stool.

CPR Kamloops Division Point Layout Plan

Here is a screenshot of my layout plan for my N scale layout. The staging tracks to the right are underneath the layout and are accessed by 2% grades either side. I am planning on having lift-out sections for emergent train-wreck cleanup as well as viewing ports in the fascia so I can guide my hands up into there (from underneath) if I have to.

Scenery continues on the Johns River

Now that I have knocked off the spray booth project I can continue with my scenery project. I am focusing on a tree-lined river being skirted by a causeway. I am drawing elements from the B&M running along the Connecticut River in Vermont as well as the actual operational location of the B&M crossing of the Johns River near Whitefield, NH.

Spray Booth Complete!

I have finally completed my spray booth! I am excited to have this done, both so I can use it and so I can move on to scenery on my layout. To keep it from being prepetually almost done I stayed on the project as I found time rather then move forward with other things.

The inside has been painted white to seal it. I have little expecation that it will stay white. I will either repaint it or cover it in poster board as required.
