Workin' On The Railroad

Turnouts have been delivered and have be temporarily set in place. Have to determine the critical switch for installation so the rest of the trackwork will fall into place. One of the guys from the local club will be over on Tuesday to help with advice on wiring, track laying etc.

Trash and Treasures

ALWAYS SUPPORT YOUR WIFE'S HOBBIES!  You never know when it might be to your benefit. Peggy and I were at a local auction yesterday where she was browsing over some "box lots" of fabric for her part-time business of reselling antique fabric and tablecloths.

Recommendation to those looking for new items

If you are looking for model railroad items, I highly recommend contacting Bryan at Mountain Subdivision Hobbies. Getting started on my new layout, he was most helpful with templates (free) to use; good advice; excellent pricing (well within my budget) and fast service.

Electro or Custom?

Back from Switzerland and want to order track for delivery on my return from San Francisco trip on the 10th. It was a really great honeymoon and included trains! Some pics to follow.

AT LAST!

PROGRESS!! The railroad is coming along with the bulk of the work almost finished. I started out by laying out sub-roadbed of luan on which paper templates of the trackplan were laid out and taped down to check the fit. After that, center lines and outlines of the track were drawn with magic marker so cuts, where necessary, could be made before firmly affixing it to wood risers at 2 inches in height to provide elevation relief where wanted.

Replacement wheels

I have had a pair of Athearn PA-1's converted to DCC with the sound unit in the A Dummy. However, that engine has the normal plastic wheels which run okay, but I'd like to convert them to steel ones. What are the sizes of these wheels? Does anyone make a replacement? Can I rob wheels from some other derelict engine?

I know they are not standard 33 (freight) or 36 (passenger) wheels, but have no way of measuring them against any list in the various catalogs. Am I stuck with these or can they be replaced with steel ones? Thanks, in advance, for your input.

A Wedding Gift

I'm getting ready to pack for our delayed honeymoon (Peggy and I joined hands on November 24th) to Switzerland on June 10th. Through the auspices of a generous gift from my mother-in-law, we will be taking a RAIL TOUR of the country for 2 weeks. The "Road Scholar" tour will include talks by railway personnel and some inside looks at everything from interurban to cog railways.

Kitbashing a Railroad

One of the things I learned in the military and in life is not to be afraid to make a decision. That's because I know you can always make another decision.

Take a brief tour of the Keystone Midland Railroad. Go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhkIRFRlZiM This is our first "attempt" at a video production and is a bit rough in spots, but will give you an idea of our club layout near Harrisbug, PA.
