Benchwork - Roadbed
02.25.20 - One Week into My Monster Railroad Layout Build update! 62ft completed
Good evening fellas. It has been exactly one week since I broke ground on building my new Socal Desert Rail Division 2 Layout. I started the day after my brithday on February 18, 2020 and since then I have managed to build a couple of hours a night for 4 nights! I am over the top excited at how much I have completed and how fast I am building since streamlining the build with standard pieces of lumber and all! At this rate I will have trains running at some capacity on my layout in 2020, I am PROMISING you that!! My energy and excitement has returned with force
12’ x 2’ HO Switching Layout
Just finished laying track on my 12’ x 2’ switching layout and getting ready to wire, weather and ballast the track. Had to add an 8” section of track to cross the joint of the two 6’ modules and move the switch further forward. Atlas #6 turnouts used for the entire layout. I also decided to stretch the top industry track to the end on both sides of the modules. I used two window latches to join the two sections, which worked out better than expected. It will be part of a larger layout in the future.
Middle School Model Railroad: a tale of two tools
This is embarrassing, but having heard that confession is good for the soul I shall proceed.
What's on your workbench? February 2020
January was a rough month to start the year off with and I'm ready for work this month, albeit a few hours early. That extra day on the end will certainly make a difference! Let's see what you've got.
The Mud Bay & Western #4 - Skyboards and Backdrops
So now that the benchwork is roughed in, I need to address the skyboard situation. I figure it will be easier to work on these before the door slabs are fastened down so now’s the time.
Planning ahead for the next expansion in 2021
Planning ahead for the next expansion in 2021. I know some people like to put pen to paper or your archiving medium of choice, then go for it. I know in about a year or two I will be working on the section along the west wall. I have started to plan now and get everything I need in place, from track plan and final operation set up for this area. It might be some time before track is tacked in place, but I'm planning now for that event.
Here is my plan as of know, it is a single industry in around 12' x18"
SP Lordsburg Sub - Construction
Construction of my SP Lordsburg Sub has begun! My first (of four) stud walls went up yesterday. The first view is standing in the doorway looking in and the second is from the opposite corner of the room looking back to the entrance.
Photos in the next post.
MDF spline?
Being a retired woodworker I've used a lot of MDF. Has anyone used it instead of hardboard for making spline?
KY&N: Setting the Benchmark! (Or at least the height)
Pending the sale of our old house, I am getting close to starting benchwork construction. First, new electrical in basement needs finished, then new lighting.
