Laser Cutting Doors

I've been messing about with the laser cutter.  Work has been busy over the last few months and we recently moved and are still trying to get organized, so in between work and projects (usually in the middle of the night) I try to refine my skills with the laser.  Recent work on that has led to the attached photos of a doorway.  I designed this in Inkscape (a good, free drawing program) and cut it out of Polybak and a Fiber One cereal box.  Polybak is a resin impregnated kraft paper used in furniture manufacturing, available by mail order at https://distributorservic

Creating water jets easy

Building a FSM structure from a Railroadkits casting set

Building a large home layout is fun, but every so often I like a project to divert me from everyday layout tasks. One that will really challenge me and result in my leaning new skills. Scratch building is one of them. I have every book, video and have watched as many as I can find on the net on the subject. Time to paint or get off the ladder. I have been a fan of Fine Scale Miniature kits forever; owning 4 unbuilt kits.

Super Trees unavailable?

I wanted to get some more Scenic Express Super Tree material and some SuperLeaf flakes.  My local hobby shop doesn't carry that line.  MB Klein (modeltrainstuff.com) says it is out of stock.  The Scenic Express web site says it is out of stock and no expected dated for restock plus they aren't accepting back orders.  Found one value pack bag on eBay, but shipping cost was very high.  Hobbylinc.com showed in-stock, and I ordered some.

ScenicExpress Superleaf flakes are also out of stock everywhere in most of the green colors.

Street lights

While traveling to LA I found this and thought it would be perfect for those people who like to add electrical doo-dad's to the layout.

This is in front of the Los Angeles Bureau of Street Lighting, they have an example of many of the street lights they use in different parts of town.  Each light has a little plaque indicating in what part of the city it was used.  For the person who likes street lights on their layout, this would allow one of of everything.

Open doors on freight depot type structures

Hi all. First time posting.

I have searched this forum but I have not found an answer to this question yet so apologies if it has been asked before.

I have an HO freight depot that I am building and I want to add an interior kit from ITLA Models but I am not sure how the doors on the kit should be positioned. Should they swing out, swing in, or slide open?
