Whack a mole just turned into

Whack a mole just turned into nuke a mole. I actually saw my first spam the other night when I woke up and could not get back to sleep. It looked like an attempt to sell something but seemed to be mostly gibberish. I do not remember what it was now but I hit the mark as spam and maybe at the time I should have made a post but I did not see it again.

Common spam tactics

Common spam tactics is to load it up with rich keywords they'd like associated with their site, and then they also salt some links into the post. Over time, Google robots are getting smarter, and they're getting wise to these spammer tricks. Once Google's robots get smart enough, the tactics will cease because Google will start penalizing posts that are clearly spam and blacklist sites that are the destination using such tactics.

Now if we could just get the

Now if we could just get the same robots for my phones! Even though I'm on the "do not call" list I constantly get phone calls from these morons and my phone service only allows up to 10 blocked numbers. My actual wireless phone system allows up to 50 blocked numbers; however, the phone must still ring once so that caller ID can identify the number before hanging up.

Just whacked a phone mole a few moments ago

called to talk to my wife about the VA mortgage - too bad the VA part of it belongs to me, not her, which is strike 1 for these guys when they call.  And we are on an unlisted number - so how they even get that number????

so how they even get that number????

Simple, they use the exchange number where you live, the first 3 numbers of your phone number and then go down through from 0000 to 9999. Odds are they'll hit somebody in those 10,000 numbers in the exchange that is has VA. Notice they  wanted talked to your wife.

Best one I ever had was a company trying to sell me extended warrenty on my truck. I got irrated to the point I wasted their time on the phone. When they asked me how many miles I had on the truck, I said 500,000. There was a slight pause and then "OK, bye" I did that for a while. I haven't received any phone calls from them since.

Another one of interest was one with a female voice asking about an extended mortgage or something similar. I found out from listening to the Shawn Hannity show that it was a computer generated voice. I though there was something wrong when I anwsered the questions and it took several seconds to get a response. It was the computer thinking of the next response. After I found out what it was I tried the trick that Hannity pulled. I kept asking it if it was a computer. By the forth time I asked it hung up on me.

If you have a little time and are mad at the world, take it out on a telemarketer by wasting their time. I try to see if I can get them to hang up on me.

So next time a telemarketer calls try this: http://www.digyourowngrave.com/tom-mabe-telemarketer-crime-scene-prank/   Bet they won't call back.

Telemarketers

The longest I've been able to keep a telemarketer on hold so far is 47 minutes.

Every few minutes I would come back to the phone to see if they were still there and assure them the person they wanted to speak with would be there shortly.

Nasty I know, but as long as they are on hold, they are not bothering anyone else. ;)

I don't get many telemarketing calls any more. wink
