Acadian Coast Eastern

The Acadian Coast Eastern is alive and well.  Version 4 occupies a 17' x 16' basement room (plus a 3 track staging yard under the stairwell in the home I moved to in December, 2019.)  Here's the track plan -- basically a big wye with 6 modeled "town" locations plus the staging yard.  My track plan is below.  All modeled towns in this plan were designed as switching puzzles of varying difficulty.  You can still find pics and info about ACE versions 1-3 (all in a 14' x 12' room in my former home) at www.sandysacerr.com.

Athearn Power Truck

Hi All;

Does anyone happen to know the size and pitch of the Athearn worm gear in an SD40-2 truck? I am building a TP56 industrial switcher and need a worm gear with a longer shaft so I can mount the flywheel on the opposite side of the truck. If I know the size and pitch of the Athearn worm I can buy a aftermarket gear.

Thanks for any help/

Need help with rivers

Guten Tag, Tom here

So I'm making a layout for the first time and I want to have a river running through it,  I have known how to make the rivers, but do I just make the entire layout of thick pieces of Styrofoam or wood? and anybody know where to buy bridges? Thanks!

Nine Month update.....Or where does the time go...

Howdy, ya'll!  Been a while...not much new to talk about, home projects took up most of the summer so not much train activity.

Some things I have accomplished are moving toward train fun....

New laminate flooring in my spare room/train room removed ugly wall-to-wall carpeting and now have a smooth easy to clean floor, also fresh wall paint....

Most of what I have done this summer was research, been trying to decide a Kansas prototype to interpret...

Minneapolis, Louisville & Southern

This is a brief introduction to the ML&S, my fictitious N scale railroad. The name was chosen based on railroads with which I have an affinity. From my younger years the railroads are Louisville & Nashville and Southern Railway. Both operated routes where I lived and where I first gained an interest in railroads.

Later in life I moved to Minneapolis and discovered the Minneapolis & St Louis Railway after riding on bike paths that once hosted their rails. M&StL was merged into C&NW in 1960.

Design Decisions

When my track plan was finalized I had plans to put signals at the entrance to each CP except for the double crossover at Linden. The double crossover would not fit into the System Table. In addition to the double crossover I had a separate single crossover, a yard lead, and a diverging route to Main 3 and the Linden Branch just west of the double crossover.

I also noticed that the distance between East and West Rapidan, and between AltaVista and North Linden was too short to allow sufficient braking.

Signal Documentation

I will collect documentation in the following posts. One of my early challenges was how to name everything that needed naming; blocks, control points, indications, &c.
