Replacing My DCC system (Lenz)

I am starting to consider my options for replacing my current DCC system.  I am the type of person that will spend a pretty long time looking into options and considering everything (read over thinking) befor pulling the trigger months (or years) down the road.  So while I don’t expect to pull the trigger on this I have decided I need to start the investigation.

Current Layout/Installation.

I model the C&O Railway, in West Virginia (New River Gorge) Circa fall 1943.  So steam, but no helper service.

“Dream Layout”

An introduction:

So some years ago I had a chance to build a new house with my Parants.  I am a bachelor and they were elderly at the time (last 60s early 70s).

So we build a largish house of about 2000sf and because they were elderly we built a ranch.  It is a pure coincidence that this gave us a basement of about 32’x68’ inside dimensions.

My father models logging railroads in general and settled on the Mower Lumber Co in Cass WV.  (Home to the prototype of the Bachmann Shay)

Time and inclination

I have been thinking a bit about model railroading and my other hobby of wood working.  And I have concluded that oddly enough when I have an inclination to do them it is usually when I don’t have the time.  And vise versa.

Over the last 6 years or so (my mid 40s to early 50s) a time when I should by all rights be at about my most active in my hobbies I find I am going for long stretches without working on either if them.

Methods and Materials for improved realism

This blog is aimed at providing a place to discuss methods and material use for improving the realism of our models, structures rolling stock/locomotives and overall layouts.

I hope to discuss anything and everything that can improve realism.
