Ideas for a potential layout... (Yes again I know)

I know I seem to bring this up often but the issue is parents and me requiring to change ideas and find one they will go for. The latest one will use two Ikea shelves measuring: 74 3/4x10 1/4 each. It will be the two side by side. Currently I am leaning towards a small bakery being served by tankcars, boxcars and covered hoppers maybe with a small scrapyard if there is still room. Does anyone know where to find some good info on railserved bakeries?

Mystery flat car?

I have seen a flatcar a few times now that I just can't identify, it is a fairly clean freshly painted red and has a few small brackets sticking up about a foot from the bed but not all the way across less than 2ft. wide. Anyone know what this may be

Praise to Scaletrains.com!

I ordered my first scaletrains.com engine and really can't find anything wrong with it or the customer service when figuring out shipping... It was the UP SD40-2 in the operator scheme and the paint to me looked amazing and even with a nice tone getting that yellowish orange hue. I have yet to run it it but from what I hear they run great so kudos to them I recommend getting any of their products (and this is 100% honest and unsolicited)

Project: Poster of all RMC comics

Well I have taken an interesting undertaking up I am going to make a tiled poster of comics cut from the back of each RMC going back to the 1980's it is a huge project but now have less than half a paper box left. I hope it turns out great and it really is a big but I think in the end it will be worth it, will post a photo when I am done but don't know how well it will turn out.

A perfect lashup... (BNSF power shortages?)

I saw what would probably be a one of a kind lashup pass by this weekend. The lead unit was a BNSF in the normal scheme, followed by a BNSF unit in the GN lookalike, followed by a BN green with white nose (6 axle not a 4 axle unit) then a regular and pretty boring intermodal but then when the end came, a BNSF warbonnet engine with wait for it... an amtrak Cascades engine.

I also saw later in the day another BN unit with the wide white stripe along the side.

Stained Glass Display Case

Saw this over on another forum and thought is was worth sharing here. This person is making a display case for an engine with a not so typical method of scenery:http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/265813.aspx?page=1

Making Lasercut Freight Cars

So this is a thread where I am going to show some of my experiments and also see if anyone has done this too. I am going to attempt to make freight cars only from lasercut wood. For my first project I going to try a gondola and eventually a boxcar also. I am not sure how well this will work out but I want to try and form a long block train and feel like this will be the cheapest way to do it easily.

Weathering Attempts

Below are some weathering attempts. I used the technique from Ralph Renzetti on Trainmasters TV and added some AIM weathering powders. I think the engines may have been a little heavy but overall I am not displaeased with the way it worked out.
