2011 NTS - Walthers

Comments

Interesting. Great for HOers but what about N Scale?

It seems to me Walther's is once again pretending that N-Scale doesn't exist or is that the video didn't include it for reasons on than Walther's continued war against doing anything for the N-Scalers among us? Or am I reading into the fact that when I called them on the phone the representative had no problem saying that Walthers' has no plans to do anything with N-Scale in the future. So we are no important to the either the hobby of model railroading or to Walthers. Frankly I think we N-Scalers should see the hand writing on the wall and avoid buying anything with Walthers name on it from now on. If they want a war, we are prepared to give them one.

Go ahead, means more stuff for HO!

If you want to take that kind of attitude Irv, then by all means do so! If all your fellow N-Scale modelers agrees, then Walthers can invest more time and effort in developing even more HO Scale Items, which comprises the majority of the hobby.

Isn't this deja vu?  I seem to recall this argument same time last year.  Maybe we should just copy and paste the same stuff we did last time so we don't waste our time beating this already dead horse.

Scale & Equipment

I must have missed where scale was even mentioned in the video?  I also am missing how ranting about N-scalers being ignored is going to help get new N-scale products developed.  I'm sure if Walthers is not doing anything with N-scale, that is has nothing to do with "wanting a war" with N-scalers.

A great interview but isn't it time to get a wireless lavaliere mic?  I think the interviews would be even better if the wired mic stayed in the hand of the interviewer.

I know good ones do not come cheap but it seems like a worthwhile addition.

BTW, no offense, Jeff does a good interview but I miss Les Halmos.

Hoping to see more videos from the event.  Thanks!!

Appreciating Modeling In All Scales but majoring in HO!

Not everybody likes me, luckily not everybody matters.

New & past produced items in O Scale

It seems to me Walther's is also pretending that O-Scale no longer exist either.

There's very little in the monthly "Flyer" in O Scale anymore. One month's "Flyer" had no entries for O Scale in it at all. Why is this? They aren't even offering to bring their earlier produced O Scale structures, and there were a lot of terrific structures, for we O Scalers to kit-bash either. Shame on them, seeing that O Scale is where Walthers began their business back in the 1930's. Now, I know there isn't the large market for O Scale (comparing to HO & N scales) but there is definitely a need.

Product Rationalization

There's very little in the monthly "Flyer" in O Scale anymore.

However there is a growing list of S gauge in the flyers.

Walthers is no mom-n-pop business. I am sure they closely monitor sales trends and act upon that information. Inventory that doesn't turn well is a death sentence for any business especially in today's economy. There was a time when businesses could survive with single digit EBITDA and large inventories. Those days are long gone now.

No solace for the non-mainstream scale modeler but a fact of life nonetheless.

A war on N scale??? REALLY?!?!?!?!?!?

Wow...my web video player must be filtering the content on the "War on N scale."  I didn't see that at all.

Just because the video didn't feature as much N scale as you would like, it doesn't mean their are no new N scale items.  If Walthers was so against N scale, why do they continue to have new announcements every month for N scale items?  I don't get the rant.

A war on N scale.....Really?  Really??  REALLY?!?!?!?!?!?

Walther's N Scale offerings...

Take a look here - I didn't cover the freight cars (Difco dump car and something else) but I think I got the rest:

War on N Scale?

Please note that all the products shown in the video were in HO. There was NOTHING IN N so ir wan't just a rant because there was little in N, there was nothing. That and the cavalier attitude that Walther's phone representatives  seem to have of them knowing everything there is to know and not caring about anything other than HO is definite turn off. If I were running Walther's there would be a few dozen employees on the unemployment roles tomorrow morning.

More stuff for HO, the shaft for N- Scale.

Are you talking as a Walthers' employee and telling us officially that Walthers' only wants to do business with HOers? Because if you aren't then you are talking the same stance I have heard from several of Walthers' phone representatives. So if you want to know where I get off having the nerve to denigrate Walthers', now you know and so should Walthers'. I have no problem cutting large companies or government agencies that think they are G-ds gift to the world down to size. And I hope Walthers gets small enough to realize that they brought it on themselves.

Walther's video

Irv,

I wouldn't take it personally or anything - Michael Stephens (who is a VP at Walthers) was in a time crunch - he did another interview directly after ours and then went straight to the airport for his flight to Milwaukee. As he had only a limited amount of time, he undoubtedly selected those new models that would appear to the majority of the viewers.

And since HO is a much larger percentage of sales, HO is where we went.

Oh - I can probably take some of the blame as well. As an HO modeler, my biases definitely can come into play here.
